Yay or nay centerpiece

Is it too out of season for our August 30, 2014 wedding to use the small Christmas ornaments (turned so you don't see the hanging part) in a hurricane vase with candles around it. Our venue is a country club ballroom and will be relatively dim so I think it would be beautiful. I hate flowers, but I love shiny stuff! If so, I want to stock up now before Christmas stuff is gone til next year!

I would do vases like these with about 3-5 votive candles around it

It looks pretty but I have to think that there are better ideas for August.

What about shells?

There are lots of options for non-floral centerpieces. But, IMO, baubles just scream Christmas and are just weird for an August wedding.

This. I wouldn't use ornaments for an August wedding. Find another filler. Good luck!

I love the look of that, but for an August wedding, it looks very out of place.

Yes, I agree, a gorgeous idea but for a summer wedding it doesn't seem to coincide with the look/feel of the season... especially if guests are fanning themselves to stay cool.. perhaps you can incorporate some natural elements with some added glitter or bling since you like shiny? Maybe river stones, marbles or shells as was suggested?

Lots of craft stores have vase filler that you could use in place of Christmas ornaments that would be more seasonally appropriate but still give the same sort of look. I know I had good luck at Michael's finding vase filler.

Thanks everyone. I just love the soft feel about it and that it reflects light so smoothly since it will be very dim with candlelight.

@gina0887 an IP address crawl is used for catching spammers. We ban spammers' IP addresses and one of your devices recently switch to using on of those numbers. I removed the number from our records, so you should be able to use any device without a problem.
