Just Engaged and Proposals

Odd engagements??

My fiancé proposed to be by having two of his co-workers "pull me over" (he is a police officer). I was actually sitting in a parking lot when they came up behind me. I was told that they were called because I had been sitting there for longer than a half hour (I just pulled in) and suspicious activity. I was sitting there waiting for my fiancé to meet me to get lunch. They "called him" to come to the scene to see what was really going on. It went all the way to me getting a "ticket". They said he had to give it to me. So, he did. On the ticket he asked me to marry him.  One of his co-workers even video taped the whole thing for me to have. It was really cute! Scary at the time but, a very cute and creative way.

Does anyone else have an off the wall story like this??

    *STUCK IN BOX*...aw.....

  • If you define that as "cute" and it makes you happy, then I'm happy for you.

I ditto @scribe95: I hope to hell that wasn't done on government time or in government cars or with government equipment. As a taxpayer, I would be FURIOUS if my local law enforcement were using government-issued equipment and government-paid time to do personal business such as a proposal. FURIOUS.

Also, I work in news, and if I found out about it, I would blow the lid off that story and have the officers be forced to pay back the money they got paid for this little shenanigan.

  • @scribe95 -- Great minds think alike! I used to be a print journalist, and now I'm in TV news (mostly behind-the-scenes, producing and editing and content creation and assignments). But you're right -- it's clearly a journo thing, because the FIRST thing I thought of was, "OMG, I'd blow the lid off that as a waste watch story if it happened during his shift on the public's dime."

  • FI proposed in the time before we realized the Nuvaring was turning me into a moody bitch with no sex drive, so our weekend wasn't as romantic as one would hope.

    Everything's fine now though!

  • @scribe95 and mpwedding2014 , though you think it's sweet, I think it's a waste of city resources.

  • I'm sorry - I also think it's pretty terrible if he did this while they were all supposed to be working. And I kind of think it's a little mean.

Me too.  Maybe it's just my personality... but if I got pulled over I would have some serious anxiety and would not think the proposal ticket was funny at all.
I think the OP must be much less high-strung and have a better sense of humor than me, haha.
  • Similar engagement on the show Everybody Loves Raymond... super cute on the show, concerns of tax dollars aside. Congrats, OP :)

  • My absolute favorite is the Penguin, for so many reason. I'm always talking about them, teaching my kids about them, and  my now fiances kids about the one thing I especially love about penguins.
During mating season, all the penguins gather the beaches searching for the "perfect pebble" when he/she finds that perfect pebble they present it to the person they feel is their soulmate and desire to have with them for life. That pebble is a sign and gift of life long commitment.
My Fiance searched a few months I guess and found a website that has this whole thing, a nice story card on beautiful paper explaining the pebble story with a picture of 2 penguins, and a framed almost "diploma" glossy/beautiful 8/10 thing saying that on this day (the day we started dated) his name and my name have confirmed our love and eternal commitment for each other)

(he told me the pebble story, even though I knew it, then got down on one knee, opened the beautiful box with a very colorful pebble I love (gemstone of sort) and asked me to marry him on one knee before showing me the rest.  We had already previously discussed we were getting to get engaged "soon" I just didn't know when, so now we're shopping for rings!
  • My fiancé drew me a comic book, and presented it to me at a restaurant that is very sentimental to my family.

I LOVE having the pictures and looking through them allows me to relive the moment over and over again. I still get butterflies looking at them! I'm still figuring out how they will be displayed at the wedding, but I think they will be at the escort card table. We'll also be having Wonder Woman and Superman action figures as our cake toppers.

Not sure if mine counts as super odd, but I was definitely really surprised! He just posted a video of it today :)

  • OP, I think that's a great story, very creative.  Congrats on your engagement!
(I work in government and am very conservative and am big on using money wisely & believe in smaller government...and let me tell ya... there are far bigger wastes and inefficiencies in government spending than a couple of police officers taking 20 minutes to help a friend propose.)
