Rocky Mountain Wedding

Hi all!

I'm looking to have my wedding in the Rockies in the fall of 2014 (gives me TONS of time to plan).  I've seen a few posts about people suggesting places for an elopement, but I'm looking to have 50-60 people for mine.

I'm open to any suggestions for locations in Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise, and Canmore.  I was somewhat drawn to locations in Jasper, but I think it may be difficult for guests to travel from Edmonton or Calgary to Jasper.  I'm under the impression that locations in Banff or Lake Louise would be a little more expensive, because they are they more "known" locations, but I could be completely wrong.  Can anyone suggest a location?  I was also looking to have an outdoor ceremony (can't waste the scenary!!).

I'm also considering hiring a planner.  Has anyone had experience using the ones in the Rockies?  Any suggestions?  Or would it be better to plan from afar (I'm in Toronto)?

    I did a ton of research for the Canadian Rockies area - but I did not go as far as Jasper.  We got married at Emerald Lake - and I hired a photographer from Calgary (way cheaper than Banff people!).  To look for wedding venues in Jasper do a google for <em>Jasper, ab "wedding photographer"</em> and then look at the hits and the images.

    An affordable option would be to have the ceremony at Quarry Lake Meadow in Canmore (it's a park), then move the reception to Iron Goat Grill or Silvertip.  Buffalo Mountain Lodge in Banff would be nice too.  The Tunnel Meadow is just across the street, so people can walk to the ceremony and reception without driving. Plus it's not right in town so a bit away from the main tourists.

    I recently booked Silvertip Golf course, and they have several room options for your numbers.  They offer 50% reduced rates on certain months so that is always an option to keep costs down.  They also offer free use of their gazebo onsite (which is stunning) if you rent a room.  Only downside is the food and beverage minimums are slightly high.

    Canmore is a good choice for a little cheaper but with much of the same beauty as Banff. Quarry Lake Park is where we're having our ceremony, and there are several hotels that will host a 50-60 person reception, I'm sure.

    I've narrowed things down to Canmore and am actually heading out there later on this month to check out some of the places.  It's like I'm practicing coordinating my wedding with this little trip  :)

    NorannR - Quarry Lake is at the top of my ceremony locations!  When are you getting married?  Let me know how it goes for you!  Do you have a rain backup?

    KikiMira - I've booked Quarry Lake for my ceremony and the Sinclair room at Silvertip for my reception.  Since I'm having my wedding on a weekday, my room rental was 50% off at Silvertip.  Yay!  :)  I was in Canmore in the summer and checked out Iron Goat.  I loved the building, and the food was fantastic, but I liked the remoteness of Silvertip more.

    Anyone have recommendations for hair and makeup?  What are people's experiences with going to a salon vs having the come to you?  I would prefer that I didn't have to go to a salon...

    I am also planning my wedding in Canmore and I was wondering if any of you girls have recommendations for affordable photographers and great make up and hair in that area.I have been checking some photographers around and they are very pricy!

    We are having it in August and as you may know it is overwhelming to find good people=)
