maybe I lack wisdom in this particular subject, I honestly just don't understand the point of vow renewals at any stage. Vows aren't driver licenses or professional certifications, they don't expire after x number of years forcing you to renew them. They are suppose to be for a lifetime or eternal depending on your own personal brand of beliefs in the situation.

Have an anniversary party, have fun remembering the vows you took.

Vow renewals aren't intended to "re-up" the marriage as it's expiring. Instead, I think of them as an affirmation that, in spite of all the hardships of life, you still mean that you are as devoted and in love with this person as the day you first said them.

Even though I meant it the first time I said it, I wouldn't say "I love you, forever" to my partner just once. You have to keep reaffirming that love with them. I think, at times when your love has been tried or has lasted a very long time, it's perfectly appropriate to state your vows again, to remind the person you love of their sincerity.
