Is this dress ok to wear as Sister of the Groom?

My brother is having an wedding reception - no ceremony, just a chinese banquet, and no bridesmaids or groomsmen.

I'm considering wearing one of these dresses, but is it too flashy? I'm a person that normally wears a low key black or dark dress as a guest to weddings. Since this time I'm close family I thought it would be nice to dress up a little more. My kids are going to be announced to walk in before the bride and groom enter the restaurant so they have a tiny role in the reception. I just don't want to look like Im trying to be a bridesmaid or upstage the bride or anything.

Well unless you're planning on wearing a white gown, I wouldn't worry about upstaging the bride.

I think all of these are great options for attending a wedding if you like them! If you're worried about looking like you're trying to be a bridesmaid, just ask what color they are wearing and don't wear that color.

What do you mean they aren't having a ceremony?
As for the dresses, they're nice. They are kinda dressy but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. But, you said it is at a restaurant. Is it going to be a fancy one or a more casual one? What are other people wearing?

The reception thing confuses me slightly but I would say any of those dresses are appropriate for a guest of a wedding (?). Especially if you want to stand out.

Oh, so maybe this isn't a "wedding" then...so this is like a "reception only" wedding if that makes sense at all. They are just going to city hall to get the license - so they aren't doing the whole walk down the aisle thing.

The reception is like a traditional Chinese banquet style at a chinese restuarant in March...I guess the restaurant is medium, not super fancy any means, but they are getting chair covers and what not to make the inside look nice...

Oh, and the bride is going to be wearing a "chi pao" or "cheung sam" - a traditional chinese gown in white and maybe red.

I like the second and third dress the best! The first one is nice, but for some reason, it reminds me of a 'high school dance' type of dress. I'm not sure why, but that was the first thing that came to mind when I saw it. I think either the second or third dress would be nice, and appropriate for a wedding reception.
