Re: Where are all the newly engaged ladies?

  • I am oldly engaged! (engaged a year and a half and nine more months to go!) I booked our hotel block today! :) We are getting marred at a local yacht club and our colors are navy and light blue! :) I am excited! Our flowers are light blue hydrangeas!
Holy moly that's a long engagement!  You have to be so ready to just be married!

OHHH Definitely! But its totally worth the wait to have the big wedding I want! OH OH ..and my aunt is marrying us!

  • Here is what I've learned after being in a million weddings.

    Spring weddings are da bomb.com.

Why?  Because then you can do all the planning during the winter when you are stuck in the house.

Fall weddings end up consuming your entire summer.

This is coming from someone who lives in the midwest, so if you live somewhere warm, carry on.
We live in Los Angeles. :P

And it's going to be very small, so there isn't a ton of planning aside from booking the restaurant (which will be both our venue for ceremony and reception).
    Jerk.

Jaykay.  I'm just coming off of #Chiberia #PolarVortex2014, so you have to understand my hatred of the cold right now and the envy I have for warmer climates.

I am leaving for vacation in just over a week!  Woot.

That is me! I'm super excited!

And I cannot even IMAGINE being in Polar Vortex 2014. My friends keep posting pictures on FB of their weather apps and I just keep telling them "it must be broken, I mean how does it get into the negative. That's ANTI-weather!"

@DragonBlood13 that is nothing. I've been engaged for 5 years. @smalfrie19 it is so awesome that your aunt is marrying you. We just found our officiant a few days ago. It was really amazing. We've been looking for someone for months and last week I posted something on here bitching about not being find someone and the next day my FI found her name and set up an appointment to meet her.

well there is a funny story about THAT! We were at an anniversary party and my aunt is a real big joker and she was going ON and ON about how because she wasn't a bridesmaid that she was just going to marry us instead! (kidding the whole time) But the MORE I actually CONSIDERED the idea, the more I loved it. I had to persuade her and do all the research about getting ordained and what she would need to do to submit our completed marriage license and offered to pay for any fees to get her ordained. She finally said, its not that hard is it? and I was like Nope..so she said yes! and I am SOOOO Excited!

@DragonBlood13 we didn't intend to be engaged this long but there have been some mini-crisis and we had to postpone twice. @smalfrie19 that is so cute! ETA: my paragraphs never work on here for some reason.

Congrats! I'm a dec engagee too! Hav u set a date yet?

I really want to do July 14, 2014 (that's our anniversary) but it falls into a vacation blackout period from work, so if my boss won't approve my time off (I sent her the request on Monday) then I really have no idea. No other dates are super meaningful to us and I just want it to be warm. He originally was thinking May, but maybe we'll do October.

    You?

But then you can have TWO anniversaries ;-)

I'm getting married on our 3 year anniversary of being together! May 31st! I'm finding w simple choices I'm making I'll be able to host 200 peeps properly under 10k! Woot woot!
  • @jdluvr06, your engagement has lasted longer than my engagement and marriage!

  • Amazing how many awesome deals and DIY stuff you can do when you have a long time to plan!
  • Where are all of you going on your Honeymoons?
Nothing is planned yet, but ever since me and Fi saw this show up in our Email inbox we knew we wanted to visit:

98% sure that that's is where we'll be going, unless some unforseen even happens.
  • We always planned on a Danube river cruise and will still do that eventually.  But FPILs recently offered us the use of their time share in Aruba-- yes please!  We aren't counting on this coming through 100% (I know all about not counting on money or gifts until it's in your hand).  And I don't think we'll have enough saved at the time of the wedding to do the Europe thing right away.  So the plan is: take a mini-moon right after the wedding, use our own timeshare down the Jersey shore or something, just get away from everything for a few days.  If FPILs come through on Aruba, great!  If not, we'll just take the mini-moon and go to Europe a few months later.

  • @DragonBlood13 the plus side of such a long engagement is that we have enough money saved to have a nice wedding and a down payment on a house. We're going to Peru for our honeymoon. @Amyzen83 it is amazing the deals you can get when you have a longer time to look for them.

Oh yeah.  I want to stay in one of those over the water bungalows at one point or another.  They are sweet.

We went to Italy and Greece for 2 weeks.  Italy was really tiring, but I loved Greece.  More relaxing and more my speed.

We did Europe 6 months after our wedding.  I know some people around here think that's strange, but we were in St. Thomas for a week and it was hard to take off more time.

    I LOVED Italy.

Wait. No. Let me rephrase: I LOVED Florence. I could have done without Rome and Venice was nice once in my life. I'd totally go back to Florence. I went to Athens on a spring break trip and would love to go back to Greece to check out some of the other islands (I've heard Crete is awesome.).

Fi has never done Europe and I would love to take him. I was considering trying to push Paris or Italy for our H-moon, but I figured Bora Bora is more our style of vacation.

I could have easily spent 5 days in Florence (we spent 3 in Rome, 3 in Florence, 2 in Venice).

Rome was just too much like New York City to me, and I LOVE NYC (plus it's just loads cheaper for me to get to what being from the US and all), so Rome was really a let down. Plus I had food poisoning the first two days, and I'm sure that that didn't help.

But Florence was just very calm and relaxing. I hung out, ate gelato, sat at cafes and had coffee and read. It was totally my style of vacationing.

I think we have similar styles of travel/vacations.

I live in Chicago, so going to a big city like that is just too much like being at home.  Fast paced, busy, touristy and I can do that at home whenever I want.  I much prefer my vacations to be low key.

YES!  For sure.  We went to Santorini and Mykonos, so I think Crete or Naxos would be nice this time around.

  • I'm another oldly engaged one!  Engaged for over a year, still almost a year and a half to go.  But what will really blow your mind is we've been together almost 11 years now.  I'm just so damn ready to be married already.  But we need the long engagement to save so we can have a kick ass reception.
Are we living parallel lives? FI will be celebrating 12 years together this month and will have a roughly 2.5 year engagement. And, you know, Jersey.
