Congrats! I'm a dec engagee too! Hav u set a date yet?
I really want to do July 14, 2014 (that's our anniversary) but it falls into a vacation blackout period from work, so if my boss won't approve my time off (I sent her the request on Monday) then I really have no idea. No other dates are super meaningful to us and I just want it to be warm. He originally was thinking May, but maybe we'll do October.

    You?
That's my date!  Also Inkdance we have the same colors (except I don't have silver). What colors are you doing for flowers?

  • I'm another oldly engaged one!  Engaged for over a year, still almost a year and a half to go.  But what will really blow your mind is we've been together almost 11 years now.  I'm just so damn ready to be married already.  But we need the long engagement to save so we can have a kick ass reception.
Are we living parallel lives? FI will be celebrating 12 years together this month and will have a roughly 2.5 year engagement. And, you know, Jersey.
Wow, maybe we are long-separated twins or something.  Fi and I will celebrate 11 years in Feb.  Our wedding date is 5/30/15.  But we started dating in high school, hence the long dating/engagement.  I grew up in central NJ, and we live in Jersey City now.  I seem to meet other NJ people wherever I go-- including on these boards!

  • I DIYed my bridal and bridesmaid bouquets over the weekend w an awesome bridesmaid who was excited to help and my mom, only spend 170 on Everything! Thinking I should post this in DIY board to see what knotties think :)
  • JCBride2014 and @Cookie Pusher I'm another long time dater. I love hearing similar stories. I meet my FI in high school (and we have 4 sets of prom pics to prove it). We're finally getting married in March, just shy of a 2 year engagement and will celebrate 14 years together in May. For years no one understood why we weren't engaged or married yet, but as I try to explain to them, when you meet someone as a kid, you have to navigate growing up both individually and together as a couple and that's difficult. We also did long distance for a few years which was a challenge. It's all totally worth it now though!

My flowers will be mostly white calla lilies, with some green/blue accents (thinking hydrangea or delphinium). Calla lilies have always been my favorite flowers.

Me too! Yesterday was our 7 year anniversary of dating, and we will have been engaged for 2 1/2 years when we get married. Our 2 year engagement anniversary is my birthday in May.

  • I am newly engaged!

We got engaged on our 7 anniversary though, so it feels weird, because it is "new" but not really. haha!

I have been "planning" in my head for a while now. Even before being engaged!
  • Engaged in November - wedding set November 1st, 2014. <3

It sounds crazy to put it in writing - but we are getting married in a beautiful even center that is attached to a huge International Market here in Cincinnati. It's a really well known market to foodies everywhere - you can buy pretty much anything you could ever dream of there. The same man who built and run it (who is rather crazy and eclectic) runs the event center that boasts a ton of recycled stone and wood planking - along with a giant chandelier that looks like a bunch of grapes~! Their catering comes straight from all of the ingredients at the store and is made with foodies like us in mind!
  • We got engaged December 2013, married December 12, 2014.

We're getting married at a golf club and having our reception there too, I'm DIYing a lot of stuff because it 1) saves money and 2) I like to do crafty stuff.

Our colors are black and red with accents of silver and crystals.

We're going to Negril, Jamaica for our HM (so excited!!)

  • Congratulations to everyone!

We got engaged 12.13.13 and are getting married 7.18.15 (our 3 yr anniversary).

We have booked our venue and the package we choose comes with a cake, dj, photographer, flowers, limo and linens. Now we need to meet with all of these vendors and pick what we want.

We know that FI's aunt will be marying us, she is a JOP and offered to perform the ceremony. His uncle is a musician and has offered to play a 12 string guitar for the ceremony entrance. Other than that, we have not made any decisions.

We have not picked BM or GM yet, I learned on here to wait until closer to the wedding in case friendships change. It's kind of killing me though, I have a couple people who I know I want to ask!

We do not know where we will go on our honeymoon yet but we know we want to go someplace tropical, most likely an all-inclusive resort. Since we are getting married in July, we want to wait until winter to go away so we can escape the cold weather in NH.

Me too.  Got engaged June of 2012 and will be getting married October 2014.  Been with FI for 12 years :-)

It was essential to have a longer engagement because everything books 1.5-1 year out in my area.

Fi and I met in college and were acquaintances, then became coworkers, then became friends, then became best friends, then got really drunk and stupid together over the course of about 2.5ish years. We'll have known each other for over 14 years by the time our wedding rolls around. We were just babies when we met and had both just ended serious, long-term relationships (I was previously engaged) when we got together. There were a lot of growing pains, A LOT of stumbling blocks, a BSC ex-girlfriend, 6-figure financial burdens, and more breakups than I can even count that got us to this point. We grew up together, and thankfully didn't grow apart. After everything we've been through already, there isn't much that can tear us apart now!

  • I'm newly engaged! He proposed on Thanksgiving. I was expecting a Christmastime proposal and he wanted to catch me off guard. :)

I have been doing lots of lurking - I never knew how etiquette dense some people are.

  • I'm newly engaged. He proposed to be on Dec 28! I have been posting here or there. We set the date for this year and apparently I'm mental for trying to plan a wedding in 8 months and during the summer!

Newly engage lurker here. I've been lurking for about a year (found you guys through a positive mention on a Dear Wendy forum I think....) and really trying to educate myself.

My now fiance proposed on 12/19/13 in Disney World. Really magical. We hope to get married there in Jan/Feb/March of 2015.

ETA: you guys have been so helpful in shedding light on the many etiquette issues these days! Keep it up! Even the loudest new posters seem to be the of the special snowflake ilk, keep doing what you are doing because it does teach us lurkers a lot. Thank you!
  • Engaged November 30, 2013 with tentative wedding date April 12, 2014 - trying to get the venue and food down right now to make that date stick!

And talk about cutting close! Just bought the wedding dress last Saturday. David's Bridal consultant says "Thank goodness you guys came today! It takes 2-3 months for the dress to get here once ordered."

That will be mine and SO's 3 year anniversary of dating! We love the 18th, because my birthday is Jan 18; we get to celebrate every half-year AND my birthday at the same time ;) We aren't engaged (yet) but lately he's been asking me if I want to watch Say Yes to the Dress and after he finally met my family during Christmas, my stepdad made a comment about him getting me something "big" soon. He's a DJ, and he said a long time ago that if he was going to propose it would be on stage during a concert. Just so happens he's DJing a concert on my birthday next week... not trying to get my hopes up, but we'll see what happens :)
