Anna Post said I could. XP

Accidentally XP from the proposal board.

I just got engaged over Christmas but I have lurked on and off for a few years. My FI just sent me this link.

I hope this works. I am already having format issues.

Anna Post has been giving out bad advice for years in the name of her rolling-in-her-grave-great-great-grandmother, Emily Post. Anna is an etiquette hack. If you want good solid advice ask Miss Manner or read the advice given by Emily Post herself.

Asking for cash is NEVER appropriate.
Just like sharing DNA with someone doesn't mean you actually know what you are talking about. I'm looking at you, Anna!

  • Some one posted this last week, I love it. Here's too cash bars and honeymoon funds!

  • If there is one thing Paris can do it is throwing a party.
  • Anna Post = NO. She gives terrible advice.
  • Old Emily Post would say it is best to display all wedding gifts, so I guess the real question is how to display all the cash the couple receives.
  • According to Amy Vanderbilt, "Checks are recorded on cards which are propped up for display." Kind of like old school Wheel of Fortune, I guess.
  • This is off topic, but I don't feel like starting a new thread.

I got into a semi-heated argument with a really close friend of mine about cash gifts and that stupid idea that you pay for your plate.  She is so delusional, that she thinks you should pay for your plate AND then give a gift on top of that.  Her reasoning...if you only pay for your plate, you aren't giving me a gift.  ::head desk::

I seriously couldn't keep fighting with her.  She is just so wrong.

Hey-- she can come to my wedding!  But seriously, NO.  I hate this for many reasons, but mostly because if brides expect that, it can lead to major financial headaches and snotty expectations if somebody doesn't "cover" their plate with their gift.

FMIL also has this idea and keeps telling us to invite her extended family members because she thinks we will make money on each guest.  Thank God she's not paying or involved in the wedding because we can just bean dip her to death.
