(btw at the macy's one day sale tomorrow, stand mixers are 40% off)
Looks like it's rebate eligible too!  Artisan or Pro is gets a $50 mail in rebate.

ETA: Artisan at Macys is $500, so would be about $250 after 40% off and rebate.  Kohls has it on sale for $350.  With 30% off (order online, easy to get code), it comes to $245.  Pad the order with $5 and if you have the Kohls card, you'd get $50 Kohls cash + $10 cash with their new rewards program.  No rebate at Kohls, but if you have the card and shop there, it can be worth it to effectively bring the price down to just under $200.

You guys are awesome, thank you!!!!!  I wish I could say precisely what I think i'll use it for most, but since i've never had one I'm just not sure.

I always thought I'd bake tons of stuff when I finally got one, but I honestly use it for shredding chicken more than anything. I never could've guessed that.

Just boil or bake or whatever you do to cook your chicken, then toss it in there and turn it on medium. Regular flat beater thing. Make sure you don't add too much liquid or it'll get mushy, and only beat it until it's shredded, not any longer. It takes like 45 seconds! :)
  • I love mine. It's the head tilt. I got it in black to match my fridge. I bake and frequently use it then turn around to clean it and use it again. It was by far the most expensive item on our registry, but worth it.
  • I have the bowl lift one. Mine is about 10 years old.  When my husband was doing the research on which model to get, he learned that the tilt style motors are not as powerful and therefore do not work as well with the different attachments

THe bowl lift style has more power and you can get more bang for your buck with the attachments.

This is why I have a bowl lift one.  I wanted a workhorse.  A pretty, cherry colored workhorse.  :D  I have an extra bowl and beater, which I highly recommend.

I WANT ONE Y'all are gonna have to stop talking about these because I'm bad with the impulses and really want one already.

I don't think we're registering, but if we DO I AM ASKING FOR IT and if we don't I AM BUYING IT. FI and I cook enough that it would get used weekly. Plus I would totally be that fancy house that made a different cake or cookie or miscellaneous sweet-treat every weekend with it.
I agree with an am doing everything you said, lol!

I once stayed at this house that had a half a million dollar kitchen and then just kind of whatever lower-middle class rest of the house. I figured that would be my house.

Not half a million dollars, but my kitchen quality will surpass every other room quality.
I think this is a valid lifestyle choice, @larrygaga

Start a very small Macy's registry for just the mixer and some attachments. Then after your wedding, you get the completion discount on it, on top of whatever sale they have going at the time!

Oh, and @larrygaga - Mine is cobalt. I had a hell of a time deciding between the cobalt and lime green ones, but I figured cobalt will be easier to match in other, future kitchens.
  • What accessories do you guys have? I've got the slicer/shredder set, the ice cream bowl, and some lids for the metal bowl. I really want the pasta kit. Like, real fuckin bad.

I had to go on amazon and get the enamel beaters because mine came with the burnished aluminum ones. Would've been fine if my water didn't basically come out of the faucet in mineral crystals.

I'd like to give a shutout to the Kitchen-aid customer service!

We received our white-on-white, beautiful mixer the other day as a wedding gift (FYI I named it Marshmallow and she's so pretty!) and when I used it the first time I noticed that there was a small white knick in it, so it wasn't a scratch or a chip-it was pretty clearly a manufacturing fail, and the "KitchenAid" metal band around the machine kinda bulged out.

Well, I chatted them up about the minuscule issues and they are sending me a new one! They only asked if I dropped it and once I said no they asked for my address and I should get a new one in a couple of days.

ETA: normally I am not a customer who complains about little things like this, but since this is an expensive little number and I plan on having it until my grandbabies are alive we decided it was at least worth bringing up to them to see what they could do about it.

I have the slicer/shredder, the meat grinder (and the sausage stuffer), the long/round pasta extruder, the flat pasta sheet one, and the ice cream maker.plus two bowls (glass and aluminium), the bowl scraping beater, and lids. But I wish I had the aluminium beater because my enamel ones are flaking.

I do use them all, but (and I've mentioned this before) the plates on the pasta extruder are a bitch to clean and so I don't use it as often as I otherwise would. I just make huge batches and freeze them so I only have to get the gunk out of the fusili crevices once. Ugh.

I have the fanciest Artisan one (not a bowl lift model but not a base one either) and it's worked flawlessly for years even on hours of pasta-making.

  • I have the stainless color and the tilt head, I love it.  I just got it as a wedding gift.  I've made pizza dough, cookie dough, batter for brownies. I think I need to make some mashed potatoes with it tomorrow.  I don't have any of the attachments, but I keep forgetting to use a BBB gift card we have to buy the edge scraper attachment.
