What do all of you blushing brides think about them?

Obviously, they aren't really good for weight loss, but I do always feel really good after I do them.  And whenever I have a cold, they always seems to knock it right out.

Discuss.

  • And I don't crave junk food as much after I do them.

That's gotta be good for something.

  • I want to get a juicer so I can DIY green juice. I feel I don't eat enough fruits and vegetables, and I would like to be able to get all the good nutrients from them.  A lot of those nutrients are really good for hair skin and nails too.  It'd be fun to have a spa day sipping green juice and doing DIY facials (Not that green juice would visibly improve anything in one day, but I would feel great ) Sometimes I buy green juice from supermarkets and I like the taste, and I do feel great after drinking it, but I feel like if I had a juicer and could do a homemade version it would be healthier, because I wouldn't add extra sugar.

All I can think right now is...

    YOBOGOYA!

I have nothing constructive to add other than I don't believe in fads or crash dieting of any kind.

  • Everyone I know who has done a juice cleanse felt awful the entire time and then gained back more weight than they originally lost when they started eating solids again.

@haileydancingbear, I have an amazing juicer (can also make peanut butter and pasta) and I make my own green juice.

It's kind of pricey, but totally worth it.  And clean up is easy because you can put everything in the dishwasher.

That's because juices are only for supplementing your diet with extra fruits and veggies.  Trying to lose weight by replacing meals with juice is a terrible idea.  What happened to your friends is that there wasn't enough calories in the juice for their bodies to function, so they started burning off their muscle tissue.  Muscle tissue is what burns fat, so once they started eating solid foods again, they didn't have as much muscle tissue to burn off the fat they were consuming, so they just gained it right back.  Juice is great for extra vitamins and nutrients.  Not for meal replacements.
and @dragonblood13 That juicer looks great.  I couldn't afford it right now, but in the future I'd want something like that.

  • Exactly, it's definitely not for weight loss.

I love to drink a green juice for breakfast.  You can pack a ton of veggies and (minimal) fruit into one.  It's amazing.

If you're relying on juice to get some of your vegetable servings, you're missing out on a lot of fiber and some nutrients. Smoothies are a little better, but your best bet is to eat whole fruits and vegetables.

I have oddly strong negative feelings about juice cleanses, mainly because they're a fad and they aren't based on science. Your body is an amazing self-cleaning machine.
  • A "cleasing juice" that makes me feel better after a weekend of pizza and buffalo wings (or the 30 pounds i've gained since my wedding, ooops) is drinking cramberry juice with a bunch of lemon and water. I get the all-natural/organic cran juice which is super tart and potent. 3/4 of a cup of cran, then squirt about half of a lemon in, add water, and a splenda.

Cranberry makes me feel less bloated, lemon is good for skin and digestion (for me, at least). I drink one of these each day for 1 week and i feel great after a few days. I eat normal food during the day and drink this in the afternoon.

  • If I can have some bacon and eggs with that juice, I'll take it.

  • I think they are stupid fads.  If you want to start eating healthy, just do it, but don't starve yourself or fall into some "magic" diet.

  • So the general consensus is that they are not good for weight loss.

Good to know, since I said that in the OP.

    But I like this feedback.

  • I did the 3-day Cooler Cleanse last June, I might have lost a pound or two, so it's not really a weight-loss tool.  I did feel fresh and rejuvenated (when I wasn't desperately craving the pizza and pasta I love so much).  I eat lots of fruits and veggies on a daily basis, so I haven't really considered buying a juicer and making my own- the solid forms have more fiber than the juice version.  I just wanted to try a juice cleanse (I like trying new things) but I don't think I'd repeat.
