i need your help with centerpieces

florist sent me a picture of the centerpiece mock up (tall arrangement pic) and i don't really like it. he did what i asked, so not his fault, i just don't like how it looks. i'm thinking that i would prefer a low arrangement instead (other pic).

can you give me your thoughts? is there a way to fix the tall one? should i go with the low? should it be a mix a low and high (about 21 tables). i'm not good with flowers and can't really articulate what i like. thanks!

PS: bachelorette was saturday and it was a blast! my sis (MOH) set up a great dinner and about 20 of my friends and family came. after dinner we were drinking and dancing. overall had a super time. i spent yesterday in bed watching bridezilla reruns. FI was super hungover too since his bachelor party was the same night as mine. so we were both useless yesterday, but it was well worth it!

Re: i need your help with centerpieces

  • Hmm... just to be clear, the circles in the tall arrangement picture are on the wall and not part of the arrangement correct?

I think the tall arrangement might look nicer if there was something happening in the vase to cover up the stems... maybe if the vase was painted? Hmmm...

  • As a matter of personal preference, I don't care for tall centerpieces towering over me. The flowers in the tall one are really pretty, but I don't love the twigs. Maybe if the florist removed the twigs, added more flowers, and did something to cover up the stems - then it wouldn't feel quite so tall. I really love the picture of the low centerpiece, especially with the candles.

  • I am also not a personal fan of tall arrangements.  And I also don't really like branches in arrangements, but that's just me.  Maybe if the tall arrangement had more flowers and it was sort of a rounder shape, like coming out over the vase more, without the twigs.  Then you could scatter little candles on the table instead of hanging from the twigs.

If you just asked me which I like-- I would totally say the low arrangement.  They're elegant, your guests can see over them to talk, and they might be a little cheaper.  I think you can pull off fewer flowers in a low arrangement.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • Personally, I prefer lower centerpieces.  I feel like the tall ones limit my ability to talk with people who are not adjacent to me.  If you were to put the flowers from the tall arrangement into a lower vase and lose the branches, I think it'd be very pretty!

no, the mirrored circles are not part of the arrangement, just (weirdly) on the wall behind it. i don't like the stems either, i think that's part of the problem. the more i look at it, the more i think i'd prefer the small centerpiece.

i had a similar reaction, i felt that i would be uncomfortable sitting below this thing. the small centerpiece feels more intimate.

and i got the pic of the small centerpiece off the florist's website photo gallery, so it shouldn't be a problem for him to recreate it.
  • I prefer low centerpieces. I'm not fond of the branches and tall centerpieces in general.  The last wedding we had tall centerpieces that kept shaking when ever FI cut into his steak.

  • I prefer the lower arrangement too.

i originally thought twigs would be cool (winter wedding), but i really don't like them in the real life sample.

talking is an issue because some of the guests are deaf. i was planning to have low centerpieces on their tables so they could sign without interruption, but i'm thinking low for all is a better idea.

    timberrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

    i wouldn't want that.
  • I prefer the lower arrangement too.
i'm leaning this way too. think i'll email him back and let him know, and ask how the price quote will be affected.

    I prefer lower.

I've seen taller arrangements look completely beautiful and gorgeous (if you can do it right OR willing to spend the $$) but most tall centerpieces get in the way of your guests interacting. The guests at the table wouldn't be able to speak to one another.

For the tall arrangements they would have to be very tall OR very little in the tall arrangement. Example of less in a tall arrangement.

these are going to be my centerpieces. (favor box on the plate) This is also the mock up pics that we took about 2 months ago.

thanks for the example, what a pretty table. i see what you're saying about tall but less. i think low may be the way to go. the tall vases my florist used are just overwhelming.
  • I prefer the lower. However, If you want some taller ones, I would have the florist wrap the stems in wide leaves so that you don't see them. I would also forgo the branches and maybe instead do some lower loops of curly willow, kind of like the below pics...

these are good ideas, thank you! i think flowers are beautiful, but i have no interest in them so i really feel at a loss with this!
  • I prefer low centerpieces in general as well, but I also think the low ones in the pic are much more warm and lovely than the tall ones. I also wouldn't care to talk around the tall ones.
  • tall is beautiful, but I prefer the lower ones as well. I once went to a wedding where you couldn't see/talk around the centerpiece and it was annoying.

  • Pretty much what everyone else has said...prefer the lower from both a practical and aesthetic aspect.

I'm like you in that I like flowers, but don't really know anything about them so I kept them minimal, showed pictures to my florist and pretty much let her do what she wanted. It all turned out great! I always heard in wedding planning that there are some things you will not really care about in terms of details and this really turned out to be true!

Your welcome and thank you for the compliment. The lace table isn't going to be what's on our table at the reception venue, just the centerpieces and favor. Everything else my FI's mom used as quick mock up, going off of what we knew my venue was going to be using. (color, height, napkins, etc.)

  • How big is the venue? I thought tall would be good to add vertical decor in a large space. I like the shorter centerpieces but the tall would do if you got rid of the twigs.
