Ridiculous Text....

We have a list of songs for our DJ that are "do not play" because for whatever reason my fiance and / or I do not like them. There are only 4 songs on this list right now and we don't really see adding any more than 1 or 2 more. Anyway, one of the songs on this list is Strawberry Wine. I am a country fan but this song makes me crazy and want to vomit and my fiance does not like it either. Well my friend saw this list the other day ( she's engaged and was going through my binder to see if there's any ideas she likes and may want to use). I just got a text that I can't even bring myself to reply too because it's ridiculous. My text from her said that us having Strawberry Wine on the do not play list is offensive to her and asked if we would allow it to be played....

What you play or don't play at your wedding is none of her business. She must really not have much of a life if she can find the time to be offended by a song not being played at someone else's wedding.

I would tell her to buy it on iTunes, play it at her own functions, and keep her nose out of your playlist.

DH hates the song 'Wonderful Tonight' by Eric Clapton. Hates it.

It was on our do-not-play list. People were astonished then they heard that, and surprised, but it was our decision and that was all there was to it.

If you do text your friend back, I would say to her, "I'm sure you didn't mean to be a guest-zilla, or to come across as a demanding bitch, so I'll disregard your text."

This is why FI and I are making a playlist and using itunes. There will be absolutely no songs played we don't like. We've had several people say "but that means you won't play any country music" and our response is usually "yep, deal with it".

When I showed our DJ our list, and he saw that, was like, 'OK, I gotta ask...,' so I explained it to him and he said, 'Well, OK then.'

It's like Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You.' Do people listen to those lyrics before they choose that song?!

I would ask her why it is so offensive, and then repeat it back to her so she can see how ridiculous she sounds.

Or, say- "sure, we'll fix that" and just not change it.

I think it's a lot of "well, it sounds pretty!" instead of "oh, is THAT what that song is about".

It's like a prettied up version of Buckcherry's "Too Drunk..." He's basically saying that she's taking so damn long to get ready but it's fine because he's going to have hot arm candy, but instead of enjoying that he's going to get so drunk that she has to drag his ass to bed because he can barely function. Very romantic.

Ok. Fair enough. I didn't know that. FYI I know what you meant about "I Will Always Love You". It is a break up song people! Also it creeps me out when people play "Every Breath You Take". Even Sting says it is a stalker song.

To OP - yeah it's none of her business what you guys decide to play. that's bullshit.

I have a few guests who are pissed off that country music is on our list of "yes to play" (mainly country love songs) and that's just what FI and I like. I have a guest or two that is pissy about us playing a specific song by a specific artist only because they can't stand that artist's voice.

In the beginning I was trying to please everyone but then I get fed up with it and too aggravated and came back with "deal with it. this is the kind of music we like/don't like, deal!" Yeah they are still pissy about it but we're paying for it and this is our day and they can't really do anything about it.

It's not the lyrics. Clapton wrote it after watching Harrison's wife get ready for a party with Paul and Linda McCartney. It's a love song written by one man about another man's wife, while that man and his wife were married. That's the coveting part.

I've never liked the song anyway, so DH objecting to its ulterior message and demanding it be banned didn't fuss me much.

OP I was telling friend about this thread and she said she wouldn't have Strawberry Wine at her wedding either because it is about a girl losing her virginity.
