Wedding Woes

Is it just me?

Hi,

Cannot go to sleep until I get this thought out of my system. My fiance and I are planning our wedding for March, and while I am very happy we are going to share a future together, it has been a long an miserable process planning the wedding.

While a part of me thinks that some challenges are just part of wedding planning, one thing really bothers me, there a proper way to address vendors by email? I have been having a devil of time getting vendors to respond. I was not able to book two photographers I really liked and it has been like pulling teeth getting the reception contact to answer my questions.

Just needed to get that off my chest. Thanks.

Re: Is it just me?

  • If your e-mail goes unanswered, pick up the phone and call.

If your contact at the reception venue doesn't answer, find the general number for the place and call and just get *someone*.

Also, your wedding is in March.   I would bet money they have other weddings or events going on and they need to prioritize those above your questions about your March wedding.   Again, if your quesitons need to be answered because you have other vendors waiting on the answer or for some other reason, then call.

Weddding planning sucks.  You're almost done.

make an appointment to go in and speak to the venue about your wedding.
  • I'm having the same problem. I called and left 2 messages and nothing. I will not let this get to me and keep trying as well as look for other vendors. I will not let one vendor ruin it for me.
  • You could even try just going to the vendor if it's not out of the way. And for pictures I'm actually asking someone in the family that knows photography to do it to save money . Don't be afraid to pester them lol
  • If emailing isn't working, call and leave messages. If leaving messages doesn't work call and make an appointment to come in and sit down with each vendor to talk about your wedding.

When I was searching for vendors, most of the ones that got my business are the vendors that ACTUALLY responded. I found a venue for my reception and it was BEAUTIFUL, I fell in love with it. Although I felt like they treated me really rudely because they wouldn't answer any of my questions until after I put money down. Even a simple question of how many people can sit at your tables in the reception hall...nothing.

I went and looked at another venue and the customer service won me over completely. She answers all my emails and when she can't give me a detailed answer she'll at least let me know she received my email and will get back to me later in the week. It wasn't my first choice but the second location won me over.

Just a food for thought. I know there are vendors out there that people just WANT but for my FI and I, if the vendor is an ass or we're not receiving any answers from them, then they're going to lose our business, plain and simple.

  • I've had the same problem with a few vender hopefuls who are aquaintences and said they were interested in my business but when I wanted to set appointments from them nothing, I called and emailed both parties. At the end of the day, I'd much rather invest a little bit more and have cake and dj services guaranteed and professionally done, instead of unanswered questions and hoping for the best. My advice is if they don't respond to your calls after emailing them in a timely manner, look elsewhere.

    =) Thanks Amyzen83.

The point I was trying to make is, this vendor may be the best one in the area, they may be the one you want, hell they may be the one EVERYONE wants, but if their customer service is CRAP, then I don't give a flying f*** how awesome your work is, you are not receiving my business.

    Thanks everybody!

Since I posted the first time I was able to talk to two of the vendors who did not respond, and I went ahead and called the vendors who still did not respond. Although I ended up leaving a voicemail with all of them,  only one responded by text and one finally emailed me back explaining that she was stuck in New York city due to the polar vortex last week, but had the order I requested ready.

Only one vendor has not responded, unfortunately this is the reception venue we signed from four months ago, but my FI and I have time off this week so we have decided to visit together and find out what's going on.

So much for living in the age of the internet, but then again these sort of logistics always have these problems.
