HUMP DAY

it's Wednesday, what's going on?

I got a letter from our mortgage-holder.  we're going to owe $371.50 to bring our escrow up from a deficit (normally it's less than $200), plus our mortgage payment went up another $20 or so.  I AM SAD.  here's hoping we get a tax refund that'll cover all that.  I wanted to buy a new chair for the living room, but it looks like that is ON HOLD.  we also have to get the carpet fixed where Bella randomly chewed it ($80) and my car repaired where H backed into his mom's car (sigh) and where I banged up the side-view mirror (bigger sigh).  WHY?!?!?

oh, and these are the shoes I ended up getting on Monday.  they aren't available on the Nike website anymore, no wonder I couldn't find them.  I think they are super-cute, but now I'm thinking of returning them since we've got other things to pay for that have popped up.

HOWEVER, I do believe that I'm getting a raise..  the first one in like 4 years (thank you, federal government job!)  if I calculated correctly, it'll be 3.6% which is a HUGE raise.  I thought it would only be 1% or maybe 1.5%.  I am very happy about that and can't wait to see my new paycheck.  that'll help cover the increased mortgage payment, and hopefully my benefits didn't go up too much and we can just pocket the extra money and save it up for our big trip to NM this coming November.

why do finances SUCK so much??

Re: HUMP DAY

  • @CocoBellaF- I'm sorry about the payment increases...that's never fun. It seems like when one thing decides to go up, everything else does too and then you have to pay for car repairs and such. I hope you get a raise though! Those are always nice.

Today after CrossFit, I'm making stromboli for the first time. It looks pretty easy but I always get antsy whenever I'm playing with bread dough. I'm afraid it won't bake all the way...oh well I hope it turns out noms.

So yesterday I had a big laugh. We were on our way to CrossFit and we passed by this llama farm..haha I think that's funny in general. Anyways, we saw this cute little sheep dog that was herding these huge llamas around. I basically died. What is the point of a llama in bumfuck Georgia? I feel like they serve the same purpose as a sheep perhaps?

  • @southernpeach89 - I've seen pet llamas and pet peacocks around the city, so who knows??  maybe... they shear them?  I DON'T KNOW.

@TwoDimes - the fed govt is basically tied down to: no raises, promotions, job openings, bonuses, or awards.  it's been really hard because our payments go up every year, and my salary has stayed the same or even decreased (last year because the social security went from 4.2% back to 6.2%).  THANKFULLY my H's company is VERY generous with bonuses and raises (both in amount and frequency) so it's been his job that has covered for all of that.  he will be getting a merit bonus or raise plus a transitional bonus in March.  it'll either go towards the student loans or towards the NM trip fund.  like I said, I am SO THANKFUL that his job is generous like that... it gives us a little breathing room.  I mean, we could go down to the minimum on his loans and be just fine, but we try to pay $1000 or more a month on those, so make cuts elsewhere to make that happen.  we thought it would take us 4 years to pay off $40,000 in loans (plus a house payment each month) but I think it'll only take 3 or 3.5 years.  YAYYYYYY!!!
  • I had a great night last night. FI brought home bread and fresh gnocchi and this awesome pesto from the market in Grand Central and it was SUCH a good dinner. HE also brought home wine, and luckily I had enough calories reserved for two large glasses of it. We also talked about some wedding stuff and his family and mine and at one point he said "I just got SO excited for our wedding." which made me really happy.

Luckily, he's working from home today so I'll have someone to help me dig my car out a little later. I have to babysit at around 3 today, but I'm still a little worried about the roads, so I'll try to leave early. Other than that I'll mostly be sitting around today hoping that the job I interviewed for calls my references...

  • @cocobellaF I hate when the mortgage payment goes up to due to escrow it's so annoying. Unexpected expenses are the worst too.

I came into work today.  Boo, I was hoping to be snowed in again.  The roads weren't too bad though, thank goodness.  Not sure if I will have rehearsal or not tonight either.

We found out yesterday one of my kitties Bailey has crystals in his urine, so he has to go on this special prescription diet of dry and wet food. One of my other cats had this issue, including very expensive surgery.  That cat who lives with my parents wound up only being fed wet food.  So now we are trying to determine the best way to handle this one cat (of our four) needing prescription food and perhaps only an all wet food diet.  It seems so hard without impacting the other cats. Advice? Suggestions anyone?

  • @Hummingbird125 - YUM!!!!  that sounds WONDERFUL.

@Peaseblossom55 - I expected it to go up and to owe a little bit, but not quite that much.  :(  and do you not feed your cats separately?  our pups eat in separate rooms.

  • Well my hunny bunny is home sick, so it's kinda quiet around the office (we work together). Not to mention our OM is at another location today and our CSR got fired last week....

I need to go get my taxes done so I can get my credit card paid off. Then I need to get my security deposit back from my rental to get a couple things taken care of.

I also need to set up a po box, figure out what I'm doing with the flower beds in front of the house and continue unpacking (most of my stuff we just threw in Cs garage until I could find places for everything.

Thank goodness it's hump day!!! Hopefully C is feeling better by this weekend- we have a concert to go to!!!
  • @southernpeach89 we have llama farms down here too.  Not sure what they're used for, but I knew a girl that lived on one in high school :)

@hummingbird125 that dinner sounds fantastic :) we're having leftovers today, haha.

Last night, there was this tree smacking against our wall for like half the night.  It was pretty annoying.  Luckily, I turned on the fan and that drowned out the noise, but I don't really know if the apartment would do some tree trimming?  That seems like such a weird request...any ideas?
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @cocobellaF we would leave dry food out all day and we would feed them wet food once in the morning and then again at night.  They each got their own plate but they would all get fed in the kitchen.  We're just going to need to rethink or strategy a bit now.

  • I feel extra tired and blah today. I haven't slept well the past two nights and it's starting to wear on me. Luckily I have some workouts planned today and if that doesn't get me to pass out and sleep for 7 or 8 hours straight then I don't know what will.

Lots of stuff going on at work for me today and for about half of it I have no clue what I'm doing...and unfortunately my boss doesn't know either. So hopefully the people I've reached out to take pity on me and help me with my questions.

I just emailed a potential DJ for our wedding so I hope to hear back from him today or tomorrow. I'm really anxious to get our vendors that need to be there in evening booked up right away. He came highly recommended by our venue so I hope he suits me and FI and has our date available.

Tonight I have my 2nd hot yoga class and I'm super excited! It's really really cold today so I can't wait to get into a room that's heated to 90 plus degrees with those amazing infrared heat lamps. It feels like you're basking in the sun and is the most wonderful thing ever.

  • @lmhollister - I haven't slept too well the past two or three nights either!  here's hoping we both get some good rest tonight.  :)  also, I want to bask in the sun.

I had a really weird dream last night.  I dreamed that I was baby-sitting my friend's 1 year old baby, and that he was kidnapped by a Mexican gang and killed.  it was an AWFUL, AWFUL dream.  I woke up just crying.  I don't even know where that came from!!

  • @lmhollister our first DJ interview was a cluster, so I hope yours isn't.  In good news, we ended up going with our second DJ (after interviewing a 3rd to make sure he just wasn't better than the 1st one, haha)  Good luck!

In other news, we want to include a card with our wedding website in the invitations since 99000 people keep calling FI to ask us about hotel information, lol...any ideas on the best way to do this?  I'm thinking either business card sized or full insert sized, but I figure that might be more expensive postage wise.

  • @cocobellaf I feel your pain. We got a COLA raise in July, but because my evaluation isn't until May, I won't get a merit raise this year...NOR a COLA raise. Instead, I will get a merit raise in May 2015, and then a COLA raise in July 2015. This year is gonna suck, but cest la vie. If I'm being 100% honest, I'm begining to look for opportunities outside of the county government. My brother has been talking about me coming to work for/with him and I'm just about at the point where I'm ready to make that leap. I'm pretty irritated with my job/bosses this week so that's probably fueling a lot of it. BUT I also want to try and find something where I could have some kind of work from home flexibility, which my current job just does not offer. I'm already dreading June when I have to leave the baby at a day care and come back to a completely unfufilling job. If anyone knows of legit work from home opportunities, send them my way! I really wish we had the money for me to stay at home and finish my degree right now, but it's just not in the cards.

Right now, we're saving up to fix up the nursery. I need to buy paint for the walls, laminate wood floors (need to rip up the carpet) and chalk paint for some pieces of furniture that I have. Oh, and a glider/ottoman, if possible. I think we'll need about $500 to do all the painting/flooring/refinishing, and an additional $400 for the glider/ottoman (which is why that will most likely have to wait).

It was looking like we wouldn't have the money to send Bean to camp this year, but we sat down, talked and worked out a budget were we're going to set aside about $800 for him to go to a couple of camps this year. We just couldn't bring ourselves to take something away from him that is so positive and that he loves so much. If we have to eat bologna sandwiches all summer, I guess that's what we'll do.

I also found another inexpensive and good quality company to purchase cloth diapers from, so I'm going to try and set aside a little money each month for the next few months to put towards purchasing a stash of size 1 cloth dipes. I think I'll need about $150-200 to get that stash. Thankfully, I'm pretty good and stocked on newborn diapers.

Why is money always going out the window?

"Stuart was scared, but he loved Margalo, Mommy. And there is nothing bigger than love." -The Bean
"His farts smell like Satan's asshole mixed with a skunk's vagina. But it's okay, because I love him." -CSousa

  • @blue I imagine adding a business sized card would be fine, it shouldn't add too much to the weight for postage.  When we set up our hotel block, the hotel gave us inserts for the invitations for the hotel with all of the information. So we just plan to add that to the invitation stuff.

    Anniversary

  • @beanbot2002 - I will commiserate with you.  it does seem like money just flies out the window as soon as you get it!  I have also been looking at jobs outside of the government.  as much as people talk about feds getting paid ridiculous amounts, I am grossly underpaid and still at an entry level position 5 years later.  I'm talking underpaid by $10,000-$15,000 in a low cost-of-living state.  and my job hasn't even been that secure with all the furloughs!  I have started applying around to see what's open.  I really hope that you can find something more flexible or even work from home!  what does your brother do?

I had a dream that I was with a big group of people (I don't remember everyone who was there) and something big happened (an explosion, attack, something) and I thought I was dead, but I wasn't, so I was laying there with my eyes closed and this guy came over to me & poked me and said "Are you awake?" but I didn't move. So he made me drink something, and he was goes "We've got one." and then he picked me up. And then I woke up and I was on a Duck Boat in Boston with all these people.

    Apparently I'm Divergent.

  • Morning ladies.  I woke up to some really odd brown stains on my hands (palms mostly).  It isn't blood, isn't washing off and I didn't touch anything wierd yesterday other than some chicken wings for H.  I'm hoping that is it but it is odd.

Today I'm working, going to try to fit in a cycling class at lunch and a dance class after work (the dance classes don't really feel like a "workout" they are so much fun, unlike cycling).

@lmhollister - Hot yoga is great.  I've only gone a few times (and am not coordinated at all) but everyone is always so nice and non-judgy in the classes.

@CocoBellaF - Dreams like that suck, sorry you woke up crying.  I had that happen recently in a dream where H was diagnoised with cancer and had a month to live.

@Hummingbird125 - Your SO's comment made me smile too.

  • @BriSox81 - I'm laughing at the duck boat part.  that is a crazy dream!
  • @brisox81 that's great!

I had a dream a few nights ago the dress rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner were totally disorganized and I had no details for the wedding. I'm sick of having these dreams about the wedding being so disorganized like every week.  Now that we're under the 5 month mark, we're spending so much money it's a bit crazy and kind of scary...

I know, it was SO random. Apparently Divergents got to celebrate the World Series, at least that's what I gathered from it. Funny enough, it wasn't even the Duck Boats that were the sticking point of the dream - I woke up thinking "YES. I'M DIVERGENT."

  • @CocoBellaF - I'm waiting to hear from my mortgage company about my escrow balance going into a devicit and me owing.  Stupid property tax (I lost my tax abatement and a HUGE school levy passed)!!  I'm expecting my house payment to go up about $80 a month.

@southernpeach89 - You just put the llama song in my head, uhg I'm going to be walking around all day saying 'Llama llama duck'.

@Peaseblossom55 - We had a cat with very similar issues growing up.  I would highly recommend using a holistic vet if possible (I don't like the ingredients of the prescription diets).

@Blue - if you have recommended hotels, I would just list them on a half sheet of paper and then list your wedding site on that.  Some older people are not comfortable with the internet.

My weird dream - I went to a dress shop that was supposed to have millions of wedding gowns and they only had 1 in my size - it was a Pirate themed dress and only $4 so I got it for a Halloween costume.

  • @TwoDimes @BriSox81 I'm so glad I'm not the only one with bizarre vivid dreams. Mine were pretty boring last night though....I just dreamed about watching the trash company finally haul away our Christmas tree.

@Blue & White I hope we only have to interview this guy! We have an alternate that we'll interview just in case but I'm really hoping we like this first guy. He seems like a lot of fun and has some great reviews.

  • @dignity100 I'll see if I can find a holistic vet.  I'd rather not put the cat on prescription food either....

    Anniversary

  • @peaseblossom55 My ex was able to "train" his cats from going from free feeding to a scheduled feeding time because one of his cats also had crystals in his urine and needed to go on special food. I think what he did was just started limiting the food they got in the morning and then giving them a limited amount again in the evening and not leaving food out in between. Increasing the water intake for the cat with the urinary issues also helped a lot. He bought one of those water fountains and the cats definitely started drinking water more frequently because it seemed more "fresh" to them I guess.

  • @Peaseblossom55 - you can use the AHVMA page (American Holistic Vet Medical Association).  I absolutely LOVED my holistic vet but his practice grew to a point where he couldn't take 'wellness only' patients so we got kicked out.  He did wonders for my dog who passed of cancer.  Just keep in mind most vets are not educated in diet & nutrition.  I know at Ohio State University (I think it's in the top 5 vet schools in the nation)  'diet & nutrition' is a very unpopular elective so most vets go with whatever food rep sells best.

  • @CocoBellaF - I can't see your shoes :(

I accidentally have 4 pairs of shoes arriving this week.

My mom got me wool TOMS for Christmas but they were too small so I was able to exchange them at Nordstrom but they're shipping me the right size.

I ordered THESE in both black and chestnut (2 for $50) because I really wanted them and I wear the same boots every single day.

    image

And then THESE were sold out in my size but I was able to set it so that if they came back in stock they just automatically billed me and shipped them to me but I did that a couple months ago and forgot. Well they're back in stock and shipped out the other day. Whoopsie!
