Calling off a wedding

Re: Calling off a wedding

  • Luckily we hadn't made any firm plans yet when I ended our engagement (just had to deal with getting money back on the ring on layaway), but I remember that I just plain didn't want to have to explain it all over and over again. I couldn't talk about it without crying or cussing. If you have a mom or sister or close friend willing to help with everything, let them. It helps. My heart goes out to you, OP. I remember those feelings. Lots of hugs to you!
  • Hi guys, just wanted to check back in and thank everyone for the well wishes and/or advice. Good news is, the wedding is back on. There had been some family drama that caused my mom to lose some perspective and threaten to not pay for the wedding (which we would not have been able to afford ourselves), but she's since come back around and agreed to honor her original commitment. That being said, I will be a Mrs in 29 days and just wanted to thank everyone for getting me through that rough period :).
So happy to hear!  Are all the contracts in your mom's name (just in case she tried to pull out again).  I don't want you to start your marriage scrambling with costs you can't handle.  Regardless I hope your day is wonderful!

Glad to hear!  I can imagine how stressful that must have been.

Serves as a gentle reminder to everyone not to count on money until you have it in hand..and that all you REALLY need is a bride, a groom, a license, a witness, and an officiant.
