Read what the insurance policy says.  I'm interested in what you find out.

I think that's correct. The jewelry store insurance is only for damages to the ring - i.e. the diamond falls out, the band breaks, etc. Insurance through your renter's insurance or any other independent insurer covers theft, loss, etc.  A few of my friends insured their rings through their parent's policies when they were living in the dorms.

So sorry you're going through this!

[QUOTE]I wish I had known about insuring my ring through my parents' policies even though I doubt they have one since neither of them wear jewelry or even wedding bands.

You could also put it on their homeowners or renters insurance.

Please keep us posted on what you decide to do.

That is a heartbreaking story.  I'm sorry that happened.  Diamond earrings were stolen out of my dorm room 16 years ago.  They were a gift from my boyfriend so I can feel your pain.

Start working an extra day here or there to save up some money to help get yourself a new one.  That's the only thing that's going to make you feel better is knowing you're on a road to engagement ring recovery.  These things happen and hindsight is always 20/20 about the insurance.  Time to move forward and have faith that you'll have a pretty ring on your finger again one day.

Check with your parents' homeowners policy.  A friend's son's brand new clothes got stolen from his college room and his parents' homeowners insurance covered it.  It's worth a try!
