Comfortable, high shoes??

I am in search of shoes to wear with my dress.  I have not had my dress altered yet so I want to have my shoes picked out so I know what length the dress should be.  I am only 5 foot tall so I know I want some type of heel or platform.  So many people have told me just to do heels for ceremony and then flats for the reception.  But, I want the extra height J I am used to walking in heels… the heels themselves do not bother me, but what does bother me is too narrow of shoes for my wide feet, or back arch support.  Does anyone have suggestions for cute wide shoes with a heel?  I normally wear a heel of 5 or 6 inches, so I was thinking maybe around 4 for the wedding.  I was considering doing “flip flops” with a platform? Since those are normally comfortable for a wide foot. Also, I like the shoes to have some kind of platform at the front of the foot so my foot isn’t on such an angle (Hope that makes sense). I don’t want to spend a lot because I will only wear them once, but I also don’t want to go to cheap because cheap can sometimes mean uncomfortable.  I thought I could maybe decorate them with flowers or jewels or something like that.  I am looking for a neutral color like white, ivory, cream, etc. Does anyone know of any websites where I could buy a (comfortable) shoe that fit my needs? Yes I realize that many will feel that any heel that is 4 inches or higher cannot be comfortable, but as stated earlier the heel itself doesn’t bother me it is the other feature. Sorry for the lonnnng post just about shoes but I wanted to provide as many details as I could.  Thanks, you ladies are all awesome!

  • I also was in search of comfortable heels, as I am 5'-1" and a foot shorter than my FI.  My research into comfortable heels led me to look more into the designer brands, because they do often tend to be more comfortable.  I figured that I could justify it as long as I went with a shoe that would be wearable after the wedding.  I ended up getting some 4" Stewart Weitzman blue snakeskin pumps that look awesome with blue jeans. They were $500 shoes that I found on sale at Saks outlet store for $150.  Generally, your shoes aren't seen at the wedding anyway, since your dress is hiding them, so what shoes you wear really isn't that critical. So you could have a little fun with them and make it your something blue or get shoes that match your wedding color?  Or even just a neutral that you may wear again. But, that doesn't mean that you can't find cheaper comfortable shoes too.

Jimmy Choo is supposed to be extremely comfortable.  But, it's also expensive.  You can find some decent deals on slightly used ones on ebay though. Or Cole Haan has heels with Nike Air technology that are supposed to be comfortable, for a slightly more reasonable price. And if you find any of these on sale or at outlet stores, it can be even better price wise.  Or Anne Klein iFlex are supposed to be pretty good for the affordable price range.

Here are some links to lists of comfy heels.  The comment sections on these links is super helpful too.  If you find a comfy brand, look through their styles to see if they have something that fits what you are looking for on your wedding day.

  • Thank you for the suggestions!  I think I am trying to find something with a platform toward the front so my foot is not on such an incline, if that makes sense.  That was why I was thinking about doing a platform flip flop or something like that... I am just not sure where to find them. I found some from a really cheap store for like $20 but I think the thong part between the toes was made out of some cheap plastic that was not comfortable.  I want to spend under $100.
  • What brand do you normally wear since you said you wear heels often, you probably have a favorite go-to brand. Mine is Nine West.
Here's a few from their website that have a platform like you want in front

  • lol I know, which is why I mentioned in my post that "I realize that many will feel that any heel that is 4 inches or higher cannot be comfortable"... I am just one of those weird people who does not mind heels, I just cannot find wide enough shoes for comfort.
  • Check online at Designer Shoe Warehouse. They have an option to pick wide shoes. Even if you don't want to order shoes from online, it will give you some brand names that might work for you that you can look for in your area.

Also keep the option open of getting a pair of heels in a fun color or a neutral color that you are looking for and getting some shoe clips (I saw cute ones on etsy) to bling them up for your wedding day but then you can take the clips off and continue to wear them for other occasions afterwards. So wish I would have done this & saved $70 on a pair of shoes I'll never wear again.

It's hard to suggest shoes because feet and bodies are different. I have a pair of 5 inch Jimmy Choos I can wear forever, and a pair of 2 inch Kate Spades that I can't stand for more than an hour. If you have a wider foot, like me, I would defintely check out Nine West. The have a large selection and most come in wide sizes. They are also in your general price point.

ETA: 6pm.com is Zappo's outlet store and they have a bunch of great options.

  • Every foot is different, but this is my wedding shoe: http://www.dsw.com/shoe/audrey+brooke+stacey+platform+sandal?prodId=dsw12prod4180163&activeCats=cat10006,cat20165

It is high, but has a platform which helps. I have been wearing them around the house the past week and they are comfortable as far as heels go. I'm going to continue to test them out to make sure I can wear them for an entire day. I don't want to change into flats at the reception, because then I would have almost 5 inches of dress pooling on the floor. That would just look awkward.

I would recommend heels from the Cole Haan Air line.  The "air" part is Nike Air technology built into the footbed.  They are very, very comfortable compared to other heels.  They are pricey, but you can find them on EBAY.  You could also google the style name (once you know what you want) to see where there may be sales.  I don't know about your lifestyle, but to me, these are shoes that could be worn again.

Here's an example (on sale!), that comes in different colors:

I have these in nude, although not for my wedding.

Also, the Chelsea is similar with a lower heel.

  • These are my shoes! I ended up with a half size too big (normally wear 9 or 9.5, and my feet are relatively wide but I don't normally wear 'wide' sizes; 9 was too small and they didn't have a 9.5 so I got the 10) which left the perfect amount of space for a cushioned gel "ball of foot" insert and another cushioned thing for the back of my heel. SUPER comfy!
