Ring Bearer or No??

I have 2 beautiful Flower Girls. One is 7 and the other will be 2 in a few days. The little boy I have in mind will be 1 in June. I don't know if that will look bad having 2 girls to 1 boy or if it will be fine. I also don't know if I can get him down the aisle and how. I'm sure he will be walking by then, but I'm a bit blank. His parents are my matron of honor and the groomsman so either way he will be watched. I guess maybe I'm thinking too much into it. Any advice?

Re: Ring Bearer or No??

  • This past summer my sister had our two nieces (6 and 4) as her flower girls and our 11 month old nephew as ring bearer. He was not walking yet and had to be carried down the aisle. But I'm my opinion he was way too young to be the ring bearer. He'll be two when I get married this fall and we're not having him (or anyone else for that matter) as the ring bearer. I don't think children that are so young will be able to make it down the aisle themselves and I personally dislike having them carried/pulled etc. At the end of the day it's a decision for you and your fiancé to make but I would go without a ring bearer.

Thank you so much for your input. Originally we planned to not have one and just let our nieces be the flower girls cause thats all we had. Then when people had to be changed it got me thinking. Before I thought well we don't need one because the MOH and BM are gonna be holding the rings. I think we are just going to stick with our original decision and just go without one, but a small part of me thinks I should considering his mom and dad will be there. Ugh so frustrating and my fiance doesn't care what I decide as long as I tell him when and where to show up. I have time and I pray I will figure it out.
  • I'm the opposite - we have 2 ring bearers and no flower girls. The only reason we are having them is because they're our twin boys who will be 19 months old at the wedding. I think it's cute to have them if they can walk otherwise it gets difficult to get them down the aisle. If my boys will walk without getting distracted then just the 2 of them will walk otherwise they will hold hands with my 2 MOHs

Awe that's cute! I hope they will be walking cause they will look adorable I'm sure!
  • I would skip the ring bearer. He will be able to walk, but probably not for that long unassisted, so you'd have to have someone escort him. He also wouldn't be old enough to understand his "job", so at that point he's just a prop.

    You're right! Thanks!
  • My flower girl (and my only option for one) will be 6 months old at the time of our wedding. I haven't decided whether my mom will carry her down the aisle or whether DS (who will be almost 2) will pull her in a vintage type wagon.

If it's not important to you to have him in, I probably wouldn't. My flower girl is my BFF's DD, so it's important, to me, that she be in our wedding.

I am not sure that a 2-year-old could pull a 6-month-old in a wagon unassisted. 2-year-olds are still working on a lot of their motor skills.

  • I agree with @Inkdancer. That sounds really dangerous to have a 2 year old pull a 6 month old down the aisle.

  • We are not having a ring bearer or flower girl. Our nieces and nephews were either too young or too old and so we just opted out of them all together. I don't think anyone's feeling should be hurt if you don't have their kiddos in the wedding. I also didn't want to obligate anyone into bringing their kids if they wanted to come and have a nice night without kids.
  • We are having our niece, who will be 6 at time, as our flower girl and then our 2 nephews as ring bearers.  Our one nephew will be turning 2 in June, our other nephew won't quite be 2 (his birthday is in December).  I'm not sure how they will make it down the aisle, walking won't be the issue, distraction/tears might be.  Thinking of maybe having the 3 kids all walk together.  No matter what, they will be adorable!!  You have to do what you are comfortable with.  Advice that has been given to me is that kids can be unpredictable, so don't freak out if they veer off the path, stop & sit, or forget to toss flowers.  I don't mind, I love these 3 kids to death & they are so adorable, anything they do will produce an "awww" from our guests.

  • Thank you all for the amazing advice. What we have decided is to stick with our original idea of having just 2 flower girls. One is 7 and the other is 2. They will walk together and if one doesn't throw the petals the other will. I won't be upset if either do or not it's just I wanted to include both of our nieces in it and well I have. The 7 year old is excited for the title mostly. I'm leaving the couple the decision on whether or not they want to bring their son or not.
  • No kids at the wedding Although everyone asks if my dog will be the ring bearer lol
