The Bachelor wedding - SMH

OK, I think we had a thread somewhere but I can't find it.  I watch The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.  It's my guilty pleasure.  Right now, I'm watching Sean and Catherine's wedding for the first time (stupid ABC made it so you can't watch episodes online until a week later.)  I find myself shaking my head almost every minute.

-Right now, they're saying their vows.  And Sean says, "You had me hooked from the beginning." Really?  Because I'm pretty sure a couple weeks ago, you said to Juan Pablo (the current Bachelor) to keep an open mind with his 27 ladies because "Catherine wasn't even on my radar until a few weeks in."  Get your story straight, bro.

-Catherine's vows weren't even really vows.  All she vowed to do was love him forever.  It just seemed super frivolous and light.  Personally, I take vows seriously and I think there's a reason people often use the same vows that have been said for a long time (in sickness and health, for richer for poorer, etc.).  Sean at least made a few promises: be a good father, put her first, love you forever.

-I can't get over how TMI this whole wedding is.  The whole obsession with not having had sex. Showing him lingerie shopping. Her getting ready for boudoir photos.  The honeymoon suite cam.  It's just TMI.  For two people (or at least Sean), who seem to have pretty conservative and Christian values, I just can't believe they are telling so much to the whole world.  Your kids are going to watch this someday.  You really want them to hear and see all this?

-On that topic, she kept talking about this "grown sexy" theme.  And she mentioned that it's like her growing up and she wants to make sure Sean sees her as a woman.  And she essentially said that having sex for the first time with him would be when he saw her as a woman.  At least, that's how I interpreted it.  So basically, you're saying that you've felt like a kid and he's seen you as a kid your entire relationship?  That just seems a little off and maybe a bit creepy.

-Personal opinion, but I think the ceremony site was ugly, ugly, ugly.  SO MANY FLOWERS.  It was just too much.

-I did appreciate that Sean's father didn't talk about the purity of gold as a symbol, but rather just it being a previous metal.  Whenever I hear the purity of gold in the ring used as a metaphor, I just want to roll my eyes.  No one's ring is pure gold.  The max normally used for jewelry is 18 karat and that is rarely used for rings.  Rings are usually 10 or 14 karat.  Pure gold is 24 karat.  So I hear someone talking about the purity of the gold in their ring as a metaphor for the purity of their love, I think "really?  I guess their love isn't really very pure then."

End rant.

Anyone else watch the wedding and have opinions?

  • I don't watch either show, but I will back everything you said (a) because I don't know otherwise and (b) because I am two glasses of wine into my night, so sure!

    Also, you're often right :)

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I stopped watching around the time of Jason, the single dad. Anyway, although I didn't see the Sean episodes, I do occasionally read his sister's blog. She use to blog her thoughts on the episodes.

I do watch the shows (holy jaun pablo last night!!) but I only watched the wedding up to the ceremony. I hated how all they talked about was how they haven't had sex. Gimme a break, we all know you're waiting, that's excellent but don't rub it in our faces. I hated how they showed him lingerie shopping and her doing the photo shoot. Yawn.

ETA: I did enjoy the road trip and them asking his dad to officiate. I really liked her ceremony place though. Oh, and I HATE the honeymoon cam.

  • I watched it last night (since we were on our honeymoon when it aired...  lol).

I didn't get the "grown sexy" and the wedding decor was more romantic than sexy.

Sean shopping for lingerie weirded me out and if they weren't going to show Catherine's photos (which I completely understand) then there is no reason for us to know she had a photo shoot.

  • Totally agree with you. The ick factor of that wedding was gross. The honeymoon suite cam - vom! And her vows were terrible. I remember her saying something like, "I love you so much I think I'm going to explode."

Is it just me, or should "explode" never be in wedding vows?
    I now have a vow-challenge. Thank you.
  • And how she equated "grown sexy" to Robin Thicke. Ummm he's hot. End of story.

Total overkill on the "we are waiting" story line. Sex was so sacred to you, you had to go lingerie shopping on national television and do a boudoir shoot for everyone to know about???

I watched because, obviously, weddings are my current guilty pleasure. The icing on the cake was during her "vows" when she used the word EXPLODED more than once. gag.

  • @lovesclimbing - did you hear the part where he said Catherine has 12 bridesmaids and he has a smaller number (I forget how many exactly) and he said he ended up having to ask people like the UPS man to try to keep up with her (or something to that effect) OMG. He better hope his groomsmen and their families never watch it. That was terrible!

    Awe, thanks!

Definitely. I didn't really see sexy in much of anything.

No, I believe what she said was "I'm going to love you until my heart explodes."  But I totally agree, explodes should not be used in wedding vows.

THAT's what I forgot.  I was sort of getting her theme when she explained it until she said Robin Thicke.  The guy who sings the rape song and Miley Cyrus ground up against at the VMA's (sorry, that's the only thing I know about Robin Thicke) is how she pictures grown sexy?  Ew.

Oh yea!  I was super excited when I heard that they had an odd number.  H and I had even sides because that's how it worked out, but I was so glad when I heard them talking about having uneven sides.  I was thinking "Maybe we'll get fewer people going off on how they can't have uneven sides on here after they see this episode."

And then he said that.  I'm guessing he was being sarcastic about the UPS man, though.

On that note, why do the Bachelor/Bachelorette weddings have such astronomical numbers in the wedding party?  I have never attended or seen pictures of weddings with more than four per side.

I do not watch The Bachelor or The Bacherlorette, however I love watching weddings.
When the bride was saying her vows, she was sure blinking a lot.  I don't know exactly what it was but she gave me a vibe that it wasn't him that she was marrying but more a 'good looking rich guy', KWIM?  He seemed to mean his vows, though.
Possibly TMI- about the whole virgin until marriage thing, I once had a fling with a guy who was one of those hardcore Christians that was apparently fine making out, groping, and receiving a hand-job, but no more because he wanted his future wife to know that he has never 'been inside anyone else'.  I just don't understand that logic, but to each their own.
I really loved all of the flowers, actually, but not the 50 different types of seating for the ceremony.
ETA did no one else start laughing when they showed the 'Honeymoon Suite' thing after the wedding and then they started playing all these ridiculous animal sounds and the sounds of a train?

  • Of course I watched, but I too was really annoyed by the 27,314 times they mentioned they'll be having sex for the first time that night.

She had a little bridezilla in her, I don't think you invent a theme and then use it in every single sentence in your wedding planning without a little bridezilla in you

And wtf was with the commercial breaks during the ceremony? Especially when everyone had entered except the bride? I couldn't believe abc did that to them (unless they had to in order to pay for all those flowers!)

  • I finally got to watch it tonight, and thought it was really pretty.  I get the "grown sexy" thing; kinda quirky but so is she so it made sense.  I love how Sean did not get it, lol.  I was a fan of her on his season and think they are a sweet couple so I wish them well.  The show obviously edits a lot, and Tierra pretty much stole the spotlight, lol so we of course did not see a lot of their interaction but anytime they were together they had this normal relationship going on that did not seem forced.

As for the wedding, Her dress was gorgeous! And I agree it was definitely odd about the whole born again virgin thing.  We get it, they finally got to have sex, stop talking about it and showing the honeymoon suite.  I would be mortified if all everyone did was talk about me having sex on my wedding night.
