Best Wedding Planning Book

I've just started planning my wedding but I want one of those planning books. Is there one out there you would recommend? Thanks!

Re: Best Wedding Planning Book

  • My very favorite planning book is A Practical Wedding by Meg Keene. It's really helpful for planning a sensible, meaningful wedding, and focusing your priorities. Her blog (www.apracticalwedding.com) is also very useful, both for the logistics stuff and for the philosophical stuff.
  • I bought The Bride's Essential Wedding Planner. It's a binder-style book and is fairly large, but contains a tonne of information on various aspects of a wedding. It has a lot of worksheets and tables that I found helpful when visiting various vendors (ie: comparison charts, questions to ask, etc), each category has a divider with a pocket to stash contracts and brochures, and there's a place to keep business cards and write notes.

It's probably overkill, but I love having everything neatly organized and in one place :)

  • FI bought me "The Bride's Book of Lists: Things to Do & Questions to Ask" by Amy Nebens.  It's a small book and I love it.  I didn't need to compare vendors that much, so I don't have a lot filled out, but it has space in each category to compare vendors and prices and lists any possible question you might want to ask.  It lays everything out in general and in a timeline at the front and then has sections that go in depth for each thing.  So far it's kept us on track and it was also one of the least expensive books ($12.95 at B&N and we used a coupon for 20% off).

  • I really like The Wedding Book by Mindy Weiss and the binder that goes along with it.  She is not the best for etiquette, but I like extreme detail and her book is fantastic on all the planning details.

Second vote for A Practical Wedding.

For etiquette, the classic book is probably Miss Manners Guide to an Excruciatingly Correct Wedding.  The question-and-answer format isn't the easiest to find specific things in, but her advice is the best.
