  If it were someone close, I wouldn't mind a phone call. However, I am sentimental and keep thank you notes. I also enjoy getting "good" mail. 

  
  

  If it were someone I don't regularly talk to, I think it could be awkward. Also, hard to catch people on the phone, or if you do it's a bad time.

  I have to ask how much mail do you guys get? We hardly get any. Like we only check the mail box once a week. I'm sentimental too but I don't keep thank you notes. I'll keep birthday cards and Christmas cards but I don't see the point of keeping thank you notes.

  It doesn't matter what you prefer.  I prefer that people remember me as the nice lady who has good manners and writes a thank you note.  That is required after receiving a gift of any kind.  Personal opinions do not change this.

  Well I order a ton of shit online- Amazon, Sephora, Ulta, Kohls, Vicky's (when panties are 7 for $26!), Ebay, Yankee Candles, art supplies, war gaming supplies- so I get all of that stuff in the mail, plus some related catalogs, some magazines, bills, statements from my 401(k), some junk during election season, Bday and Holiday cards.

  This exactly.  No one in my family writes anything, it's almost always calls, and I'll admit I get jealous when Fi gets correspondence from his family.
