top 2 venues

so we have narrowed down our venues to 2

one is cheaper but it is darker and doesnt have ambiance, has more parking space. It is also located in a more centric area.

the other is beautiful, modern, lots of windows and plants surrounding but a bit more expensive, is not as centric/easily accesible as the other.

any ideas on how to make a final desicion?

FI is all for the cheaper one (which I believe would require much more decor) and I love the other one, and I feel the more expensive one goes so much better with the feeling we are looking to having at the wedding.

Re: top 2 venues

  • how much is the price difference?  and do you have a budget for a lot of decor in the cheaper one?  if you feel that you needed to decorate.  Coming from being at MANYYY weddings, the last thing people notice is the decor. out of the past 10 weddings I've gone to, i only remember one centerpiece/decorations and it was only because they were hideous.  so long as you have alcohol flowing, great food and good music... people will have fun regardless if you have flowers decorating the place or not.

we're using centerpieces that come with out place and some candles, not many other decorations....  everyone wants to eat, get drunk and dance... save the $$ ! especially thinking of out of town guests or elder guests who don't use gps.. they may get lost, or have a hard time finding the place, possibly being late.

  • If you have the money and absolutely hate the darker place, go for it. Take a few days to think about it though. I was in a similar situation but AFTER I had already put a deposit on a place. I ended up hating it the more I thought about it. I found another place I really loved afterward so we are doing it there. I felt pressured to get the first place because of the fantastic price. But for not much more I am going to be able to get the experience I want. I say sleep on it and do some numbers. How much more decor would the other place need? How much would you save? Is it worth it to you?

    Good luck!
  • the cheaper one is 975-1175 and the more expensive one is 1015-1450

the prices are a range because it depends if we get a collegiate discount or not.

as for decor i have no idea an approximate of money it would need for decor. All I can say is it would need some lighting and more rustic and plants to achieve our vibe (which is Rustic and nature in modern)

we truly arent looking to have elaborate centerpieces so de decor we do have will be to make the space feel more like us.

    thanks ladies

  • I suggest going for the venue you like better, especially with it being that small of a difference in cost. In fact, it may even get more expensive to try and decorate the less-liked venue to your liking.

To make up for the lack of parking space, would it be possible for you to offer some kind of shuttle service?
  • @thesummersky

yeah that is what I had been telling FI, and yes we have thought about doing a shuttle service. They have ~30 parking spaces on site and there is parking on the street surrounding the venue and I was told the security provided would look out for both on site and surrounding parking.

  • For that little of a price difference go with the one that needs less work (assuming the parking isn't a deal breaker).  You will easily spend the difference in decorations in trying to make the space pretty.

  • That sounds like a nice deal. How many people are you expecting? 30 spaces would work for me since our loved ones will be carpooling/walking from the next door hotel, but about 30 spaces may be tight for a large wedding.
  • Not sure if you chose yet or if this is something you have thought about.  My venue is in a really annoying location. It is beautiful and really is everything we were looking for but it is not close to anything and you have to drive through a bad area to get to it. I honestly thought location wouldn't matter too much but since I have been going back and forth so much lately, I have found it really bothersome.  So much so that I am experiencing a bit of venue regret about it.
