Chit Chat

My venue was all over the news this weekend.

And not for a good reason! Some sort of intestinal virus spread throughout the resort and made hundreds of guests and staff sick. They had to shut the whole resort down to bring in cleaners. Crazy - I've only heard of this sort of thing happening on cruise ships. Anyway, I received about 6 phone calls over the weekend. "Omg. Did you see XXX is in the news!!!" "Aren't you so glad you're not having your wedding there this month!" "How gross - that place must be covered in germs!"

It honestly and truly does not bother me. Things like this happen. I think it sucks that people got sick. My wedding is not happening for another 8 months. I just don't understand why people felt the need to call and make those comments.

Re: My venue was all over the news this weekend.

  • On the plus side, now they'll be extra careful in cleaning everything so it doesn't happen again. Their reputation = money.

People like that just want to gossip and thrive on other people's drama. Ignore them.
  • On a somewhat related note, when my sister got married a few years ago, I had a cousin whispering to the family that she wouldnt stay at the hotel he side she read somewhere that it had bedbugs in the past.
  • Some people can't help themselves, it's like they try to get a rise out of people.  As mentioned, your venue is probably going to be super-careful going forward to avoid any sort of outbreak :)
  • @climbingbrideny- I am pretty sure I know your venue, then! I commented to FI about it this weekend. Such a beautiful place, but that stinks!

It really is a beautiful place! I was sad for them that they were in the news for that.
  • Aaaw man that mus be annoying!! I would not say anything to the person if I knew their wedding was there, that seems rude.

Kinda funny though, there's a sketchy Chinese buffet in my town that's always in the paper for failing health inspections and even some roaches. They clean it up, be on their way, and fail 6-12 months later. Well my brother and I love their food so we're the only ones out of everyone we know who will eat there hahahah. I know it probably sounds like we are nasty but I've worked in restaurants and seen how bad they get in the back so it doesn't really bother me.

  • @climbingbrideny I saw that on the news as well! I'm quite jealous about your venue, I went to school up there and it has a wonderful reputation - and if you're getting married in September/October... man, the foliage in that area will be incredible! :)

I really am ridiculously excited about the venue. I had always heard great things about it, but had never been there until we went to check it out for the wedding. FI had been there many times though and said it was perfect. Once we got there, I totally fell in love. The pictures are going to be amazing.
  • ClimbingBrideNY, I read about your venue on the news, too! That sucks, but like you said, by then the venue will be super clean (who knows, maybe you'll get a discount!). This stuff happens. It is a gorgeous venue btw!!! My friend actually got engaged there a couple of years ago. She and her FI went to undergrad up there, and she told me they used to see that place and always wanted to go. So, he took her up there to propose:). An October wedding there is going to be so beautiful.

Aww! What a great place to get engaged!
  • Here's an idea-- Airborne and Emergen-C in welcome baskets! (Or bathroom baskets, or as favors... you get the idea...)
I say this in good humor :)

  • We got a bunch of phonecalls when the owner of our venue killed himself a few months before out wedding.  We waited a few weeks to let things come down, then made a few phone calls to get assurance that everything was being handled appropriately for upcoming events.

I would also imagine that they will be on their cleanliness game in the coming months-years after such negative publicity!
