What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

Re: What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

  • We're having sushi for lunch and the local university chorus does singing valentines and should arrive during lunch...hee hee hee...he has the day off so I couldn't embarrass him at work or send him anything there. Then making steaks & fries with broccoli and maybe scallops, and something unhealthy for dessert, maybe chocolate mousse.

I LOVE Valentine's day because it's an excuse to wear red and eat delicious things. Every time I've gone out to eat V-Day I've regretted it, though. So crowded and new unfamiliar menus and stressed-out servers.
  • We are both working, but going out for a drink after.
  • We are getting Chinese take out, a bottle of wine, and renting a movie. No gifts because neither of us can really afford it and a night in together is really all we need! I'll get him a card and some Reese's pb cups because FI is a chocolate fiend. A really yummy bakery near us is running a special on a heart shaped cake for $20 so I might surprise him with that and make that our dessert. Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate!

  • We're not doing anything on Valentine's Day, but we have dinner reservations at our favorite restaurant on Saturday. We love to eat, and try to find an "excuse" to go out for a really good meal once a month. Cupid is our excuse in February.

  • DH is working (as always).  I will go to his restaurant for my last filet sliders at this place since we move less than a week later.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We're going to BIL's wedding during the day, then having dinner with friends that night. We don't do a lot for V-Day, because it's not really a big holiday, but it is our first one married, so that's nice.

I bought him a Chelsea FC scarf and will get him a card.

Ahhh a soccer fan, huh? I've gotten FI so many Manchester United gifts, I don't think there"s anything left'. Really though, last gift was a penguin with the Man U crest since he loves penguins...hah. Looks like this year will have to be something not related to soccer.
  • We're going to stay in and make dinner. I feel like I should care that we aren't really doing anything, but I'm too stressed out with school to plan anything, and I'm just not that sad about it. *on a side-note* Yesterday FI and I got kind of annoyed with each other and snapped at each other a little. Later on he got all emotional and teared up, I think for being so grumpy earlier. I asked him what was wrong and he just shook his head and said, "you're so beautiful." That was romance enough for me :)
  • We were going to go to a small neighbourhood restaurant, but they were all booked up. Most things around here filled their reservations quickly.

We ended up getting one of the last reservations at the winery we're getting married at and I'm suuuuuper excited! They have phenomenal food (it's a 4 diamond restaurant) and the atmosphere is great. They have a 5-course menu set for the night and it sounds delicious :) FI also told me today that he bought me tickets to see one of my favourite bands next week, and I think I squealed at my desk when he told me haha.

I'm so looking forward to a great weekend after the last couple of weeks. Oh, and on Saturday, we have our dessert tasting with our patisserie, so yay!

  • We won't be doing anything as he has to work and he works loooong shifts. My mom and I are going to grab sandwiches for lunch, then do zumba. At night I may grab a drink with a friend.
