Photos incorporated in table numbers

For the table numbers, I wanted to use pictures of my fiance and I at the age of the designated table number (table 1, photo of each of us at 1 years old, etc.) but I will only have about 12-15 tables, so the photos wouldn't go up to our current ages (28). Would it look silly to stop at 15 years old? I like this idea but it just seems odd. Are there any other ideas that incorporate photos?

Re: Photos incorporated in table numbers

  • If you put photos in a slide show that runs on a loop in the background, that should be okay.

But I wouldn't make photos of you and your FI something that everyone has to stop and focus on-they're already focused on you and your FI live as the honorees of the day.  More attention on you could seem AWish.
  • I don't think it would be silly to stop at 15. Most people will know you as the adults you are, so pictures of you as kids could be fun.

However, this idea will probably look fairly informal on your tables. If you're going for a very formal atmosphere, I'd skip the photos.

  • My daughter did this. Their numbers stopped long before they reached their current age. They actually jumped table numbers from 11 to 14 because neither of them felt they had one "decent" picture from the dreaded middle school years.
  • mobkaz - that's brilliant.

  • I disagree about it being AWish.  But it is seriously very "done".  But if you really like this idea then go for it :)  And no - it's not weird to end at a certain age.

I actually wasn't referring to this specific idea-only to her question about how else she could use photos besides this idea.
  • I don't think that's weird to stop at 12-15 at all. FI and I both have a favorite picture of ourselves hanging in our home when we were about 2 years old. On the card box table we are framing these 2 photos along with one of each our parent's weddings (they are all still married).

  • I think it's an awesome idea, and it's definitely not weird to stop at 12-15. I think @mobkaz daughter's idea was brilliant because holy shit there are no good pictures of me from the age of 13 until I was 20.

Ohhhhhhhhhh yeah.  It's a little self indulgent, depending on how it's done.

  • Definitely a cute idea - but i agree that if you are having a very formal reception, it might not look right.  Otherwise, more power to you!  I do not have the patience to deal with anything other than simple cards with numbers on them.  i admire your creativity.

Just make sure the table number is on there too so as to not confuse people!  I know this shouldn't need to be said, but my biggest pet peeve is when the tables don't have numbers or names and instead it's like "find the colored lantern that matches your place card and you're sitting at the table underneath that lantern."  that makes life more difficult than it needs to be.

Or the latest Pinterest trend of "name the tables after places you've been together, and assign guests to a city/country" only then there's no logical order for the tables so you have to stop and look at every damn one until you find Poughkeepsie? Yeah. PLEASE stick with numbers. Or letters, or anything that has a logical order so you know "if this is 19 and I need 2, I have a ways to go."

  • I did this! We stopped at 18 (although we met at 19 so it worked out well) but the older you get, the less you change year to year so the older ones are not necessary!

I do want to say this was a time consuming project. Finding all the pictures (DH is the youngest of 3 boys so it seems that they didn't take a lot of pictures of him), scanning, cropping, printing and assembling. They came out really cute and I did love them... but looking back I questioned many of my DIY projects and if they were worth the time and money! (most people just don't notice those little touches!)

Below is my mock up for table one (extra cute because we matched!) Our wedding was Royal Blue and Apple green with touches of lace.
