Favors

Have we had this discussion already.. I forget.  Is anyone doing favors? If so what are you doing? I'm looking a few different options and not sure what to do.  I have a big draw of wedding favors I've never used.  I considered something edible, but what I don't know. I don't want it to be just small candies or anything.  I also considered mini succulents.  The last option is with the photobook and just giving out frames for the guests to put their photos in. FI wanted to do a donation, instead, also considering that option as well.

Re: Favors

  • I think the photo frame option is good-Since you are already giving out/have guest take photos, that is the favor.

I have these little crocheted fortune cookies with personalized "fortunes" and a thank you in little boxes that serve as escort cards (some guests may want to keep the cookie, it makes a great cat toy :-)
We have a candy/popcorn/cookie bar with take home bags and of course the photo booth, so I guess any one of these could be the "favor."

If you really want to do something else, a cookie is great option--or even a cookie bar.  Cookies can be made up to two months in advance and frozen.

  • Wow you have a lot of stuff for your guests in terms of favors. That is awesome @wabanzi.  The worry about photo frames would be that they get lost or forgotten on the tables.  My sister did paper frames almost all of them got left on tables by guests.... I thought either a plastic or magnetic kind of frame.  Also need to discuss with FI.

I think with any favors, some (or a lot) will get left.  At least with photos, they could be collected at the end of the night and sent out with your thank you cards.  But really, I wouldn't worry too much about favors.  They are a bonus, not a necessity.

  • @wabanzi I agree they aren't necessary.  I'd almost rather make a donation and see the money go to something good.

  • The only favor type thing we're having is little boxes of dinner mints on the tables and bowls of chocolates.

I'm actually going to be buying several bags of Dove heart shaped chocolates to use. Valentine's is the only time I see them available.

  • FI and I make our own beer and wine. We always have at least 2 different beers on tap and typically around 4 different kinds of wine. So, we decided to make wine as our guest favours.

  • @ahyatt87 making your own wine and beer is so awesome. I'm sure guests will love the wine!

@elbecko I like the idea of sugar cookies with the frosting on them. I may look into something like that.

  • I love Those sugar cookie photos! Adorable!!!
  • I love baking so I'm going to make every guest a cake ball and package them up nicely. It will cost us like $30 haha.

We originally budgeted around $200 for favors but we both didn't want it to be a complete waste and have things left behind. Instead, we'll make these cake balls and we're using the rest of the money to sponsor a cat kennel at our local SPCA for the year, and hope to make it a yearly thing. We're not telling our guests this because we just decided to use the majority of our budget differently and at the end of the day they still get a decent favor :)

  • We doing a craft beer wedding so our favors are going to be personalized pint glasses.  Not overly personalized but probably a hop vine with an N&C somwhere on it.  My bridesmaid is still working out the details of our logo.  Dad did mention that we would probably have some left overs/left behinds.  I figure they would go great with the bar we are building in our basement.

Some of my favorite take aways have been food related.  I like the candy/sweets tables with personalized bags those are always fun.  My favorite was a cookie table that the bride and groom had family members each make a favorite family cookie and you could try some of them.  The bag had the couple's favorite family recipe for cookies on it.

  • And as a side note I don't think favors are very necessary at all.  As a guest I wouldn't think twice if there wasn't favors.
  • If you want to use the money for favors as a donation instead, that is fine, but don't announce "in lieu of favors a donation was made to xxx". It's not nice to say instead of giving you Y we did X with that money. Favors are not necessary, so there is no problem not having them. I am not doing favors because I think they are a waste.

  • We chose to do a donation in lieu of a traditional wedding favor.  We chose the American Cancer Society since that is a cause that is so close to our hearts.  My mom passed away from cancer and his grandfather did as well.  I know with the American Cancer Society, they helped you customize a wedding favor on a script that you could hand out to your guests...for free!  There was no minimum donation.  If you decide to go the route of a donation, think about something that is special to you and your fiancé.
  • I wasn't going to do favors, but then I found cute, inexpensive matchboxes. And FI is a firefighter so.... get it? So cheesy I know
  • @lakreuz1 I think that's cute! I don't think it's really cheesy. At least yours reflects something about you guys. We're just doing a candy bar with bags so guests can take some home, and then giving donations. We're not very good with coming up with unique ideas, haha.

But who doesn't love candy?  And it looks so pretty all set up.

I just bought the M&Ms for our candy bar and now I need to hide them b/c I've already broken into one bag.

  • Haha that keeps happening to me! I had to box up some of the candy and put it on the top shelf of my cabinets.

We're having a professional photo booth as our favor. We thought about doing frames for their strips, but it just caused too much of a headache and decided to just stick to the strips.

  • FI and I really like tea so we're thinking about personalized tea bags.  Tea forte has really cute favors, but you can also probably order one of their samplers and use the individual tea pyramids with a cute tag, which is cheaper.

Would also love cookies vs something else edible, but our venue told us we could only bring in a cake from a licensed baker and I'm not sure what their policy is on other outside food.
