Repost: MOH trying to get pregnant... dress style/size

*I originally posted this in Wedding Party category.. but then realized it would have been better in this category!*

Hi Ladies!

So my MOH has been trying to get pregnant. She has actually stopped for a month or two because she wanted to have the baby either before our wedding (12-13-14) or after (for multiple reasons, not just because of our wedding). I FULLY support her having a baby and am SO excited that they are trying to get pregnant!!!

So my question is about dresses and such. Did any of you have bridesmaids that were pregnant in the wedding and how did you order dresses? Since we don't know exactly how far along she will be or if she will even be pregnant.. i want to make sure i'm choosing a style/dress fabric that will make her feel comfortable. Sizes too seem to be an issue. This is her first, so how on earth do you guess how big you will be?

The plan is to pick a colour and then have the girls pick a style of dress they want- but i would like it to be in the same kind of fabric...i'm pretty open to fabrics and such. We are having a winter wonderland theme. I planned on going to David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo for dresses

Any suggestions? And thanks in advance!

Since she is your MOH could she have a different color / style of dress? If so, maybe wait until it's closer to the wedding (you also have plenty of time for dresses) and then see where she's at (whether or not she pregnant and if she is, how far along) about 3 months or 4 months out.
  • Yep, wait till 3 or 4 months out. You'll know more then, and it'll still be plenty of time to get a dress.
  • My BM was 9 months pregnant at my wedding. I had all of my BMs in black dresses and the plan was to just get her a different black dress. We went shopping at some maternity stores and ended up finding a dress almost exactly like the other BM dresses - and on super-sale.

I'd suggest waiting - you definitely have time. Your MOH can always get an empire-waist dress in the same color and fabric, even if it isn't from the same store.

This. One of my bridesmaid is TTC. I chatted with her to find out what she would feel confortable in, and we waited until we were four months out from the wedding before we ordered the dresses. She also chose a dress with a corset back, as she felt that would give her more flexibilty, and she ordered a size up as she was not pregnant at the time of ordering. We are now just over three months out, and she isn't pregnant yet, but just wait a bit, and make sure she is able to choose something that she thinks will work for her.

  • Check out David's Bridal selection, reason is that I know that their ordering turn around time can be fairly quick. My girls got their dresses in under 3 weeks. That would allow your BM to put off ordering a dress as long as possible. They have lots of styles that would accomodate a growing belly and I believe they even have maternity dresses. One of my friends is having her BM order Alfred Angelo dresses and they have to have their dress orders in by the end of March for a Mid Sept. wedding. Good luck to your friend!!!
  • I had this same situation with my MOH... I let her pick out a style that she felt she would be most comfortable in... an empire waist with flowy chiffon.  My biggest piece of advice though... make sure to order the dress AT LEAST two sizes bigger than what she normally wears... we ran into the problem of her 'friends' getting a little bit bigger than they did with her first pregnancy :/ Remember... you can always make a dress smaller but not bigger

    Good luck!

  • I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where another bridesmaid found out right after ordering the dresses that she was pregnant. Luckily she had picked a flowy, empire-waist gown. She waited until as late as possible to get it altered, and had no problem with the belly, although her dress was a little shorter than everyone else's to accomodate it! The issue was her chest---she actually busted a (very important) stitch in the cleavage area and needed to do an emergency alteration after the ceremony and before the reception. So yes, wait as long as possible, empire waist, and definitely size up!
  • I have the same situation! We went to a store and they said she needs to wait until it is only 3 weeks before the wedding. It is impossible to predict the size of the belly and if she gains weight. We looked at the Jenny Yoo Annabella dress, but I down' know if it will fit! :) good luck to you ✨
