Motivation? That's a thing?

So, today is a holiday in Ontario, as it is for the US, and I'm stuck at work.

We have a very small team in our dept here in the Canadian office of our company, and we generally work holidays. However, I have NO desire to be here and have spent half the day on TK, chatting with co-workers on our inter-office IM system, and taking tea breaks. I may have also emailed a breeder who is expecting Great Dane puppies in the fall and I desperately want one haha

Normally, I have great work ethic but it's tough today because things are SO. SLOW. due to all of our customers being on holiday, as well.

So basically, this is what's going on in my brain right now:

They're just so freaking cute!

This was me, exactly. Last week was a Tay-cray shitshow, and I'm hoping this week stays calm(er).

Right now, I want to go home and go back to binge-watching The Vampire Diaries haha

  • I am with you Pumpkin.  I work for a government contracting firm and we have to work two holidays that are federal holidays so no client means no work.  My work is typically slow as it is but on days like today things are so much slower.  But on the bright side I get to wear my uggs and a sweatshirt!

    Wuhoo!

Our office is pretty darn casual on a normal basis (although I like to dress up most days), but I'm definitely rocking head-to-toe Lululemon and neon pink running shoes right now haha. I love slow days for that.

    Anniversary
  • I'm in state govt. I think if I suggested we get the day off, my boss would laugh in my face and give me more work to do.
  • It's Family Day today, so no work for me.  I totally needed this day off.  On the bright side Pumpkin, Tim's started Roll up the Rim today, and since it's the 50th anniversary, there's a second bonus roll on each cup!!!!  I'm already 0 for 2 with 1 cup.  :(  Double the risk = double the disappointment

Ooh, fun! I'm not usually a Tim's girl (I love me some Starbucks!), but I can't resist RUTR! I think we have 3 Timmies in a 2 block radius haha.

Interesting fact: My great-grandfather owned a bakery in Southern Ontario after they emigrated here from Holland, and investors came and asked him if he wanted to franchise it and turn it into a coffee shop/bakery. He was all for the idea, but his son had a 50% stake in the business and it would be passed down to him, so great-grandfather asked great-uncle what he wanted to do. Great-uncle replied, "Who wants to sit around in a bakery that smells like yeast and drink coffee? No, thanks!" They turned down the offer, and the next week, the investors went to Tim Horton's and they (obviously) accepted the offer.

  • I don't drink coffee at all, so I only get Tim's hot chocolates.  Starbucks is too watered down for me with those.

Too bad your family missed out on the franchise.  You could have been the Timbit Queen!!

  • I'm a latte girl, and FI makes fun of me because I'm one of those people who orders complicated drinks (Venti non-fat hazelnut latte, no foam, extra hot... and sometimes, an extra shot. If it's a drink with whipped cream, I add in no whip haha)

And you're right! This could have been me:

Tim Hortons, a Canadian coffee chain that started in Ontario and spread nation-wide. I *think* some border states have it now, too.

  • There are Tim Horton's locations in New York and New Jersey! I had a friend come to stay with me from Canada a few years ago, and she was so relieved to find a TH while we were sight-seeing!

  • Yeahhhh, a lot of Canadians are Timmies addicts haha. You seriously can't go 2 minutes in a decent-sized city without seeing a handful of them here.

Except in Vancouver. You have to search to find a Tim's, but Starbucks everywhere. Lucky for me I'm more of a Starbucks girl

  • They're Tim Horton's Coffee and Bake shop in the US.  We found one in NYC, but it was 45C and humid, so I didn't want a hot chocolate
