  It is fine, so is word of mouth. You don't have to have formal invites for the RD.

  Rehearsal dinners don't call for formal invitations unless they are actually formal events, so if yours is casual, evites are fine.

  As long as everyone gets the details in advance, you're good. Smoke signals, e-vites, carrier pigeons... all good if they get the message there.
