3 hour unhosted gap!

Re: 3 hour unhosted gap!

  • I am not as bothered by gaps as a lot of people are, BUT a gap when ceremony & reception are in the same place is insane. I never wanted to do a first look. I always wanted FI to see me for the first time coming down the aisle. But we are having ceremony & reception in the same place. Also, there is no way I am missing my NJ cocktail hour. So guess what... we are doing first look. Your friend's plan is crazy and I agree that everyone will be trashed by the time they make it to cocktail hour. Perhaps trashed enough to tell her how they really feel.
Yea being from NJ too, you don't want to miss cocktail hour!!! :-)

Damn straight! Our caterer is doing a bruschetta bar (with locally sourced tomatoes, whoo hoo!) for our cocktail hour, and there's no way in hell I'm missing the whole thing. We aren't doing a First Look, but our photographer knows we only want a couple of pictures - 30 minutes, max. Aftter a half hour, I'm going to cocktail hour whether she's done or not!

  • @JellyBean5251 - Nope, I'm hoping to get ALL of ours done before the actual wedding, because I want to enjoy the cocktail hour with our guests! In fact, I'm getting started getting ready at 6 am to do that.
  • You guys know that you can request that your venue make up a platter of apps/food being served during cocktail hour that they then squirrel away specifically for the WP, so that once you all get to your reception venue you can enjoy the apps from cocktail hour w/o having to be present at cocktail hour, right?

This is what our venue is doing.  They will have food and drinks up in the bridal suite for all of us, so we will head up there after taking photos, chill for a few minutes as a group, then head down to the reception.  It helps that there is a secret, side entrance for us too ;-)

But seriously, ask your venues if they can do something like that!

Our planner is working with the caterer to do this for us.  We still plan to do a first look and show up about halfway through the cocktail hour - but at least this way we are guaranteed to get at least one of each item from the cocktail hour whether we are there or not.

My venue takes us upstairs to feed us (the wedded couple) before we do our entrance, we aren't even having a seats saved specifically for us at the reception because of this. While people are eating, we will be going table to table, having already been fed.  I just want to be able to enjoy as much time with my guests as possible. But I will ask for extra mini crabcakes! ;)

Mine can't. It's an outdoor garden, and the only place where they can serve food is at the pavillion where the reception is or in the log cabin next to the pavillion... where the bathrooms are, the guestbook/escort cards/card box is going to be set up, and there's no room to have tables or seats for us to eat. The caterer could bring us as platters, but what the hell would we do with them? That's why we plan to be announced halfway through cocktail hour so we can eat!

    This!

We ended up doing some of our photos at our reception venue.  The catering staff brought us a round of drinks and a tray of apps while we were doing photos.

There was no way I was buying 300 stuffed mushrooms and not eating one.
