How much did you pay for your wedding cake?!?!

Just curious as to how much people are willing to spend on a wedding cake? I have priced around and have gotten anywhere from $400 to over $1,000. I have approx. 600 guest so obviously I need a decent amount of cake to serve. But is a cake really worth spending $1,000+???

Geez 600 guests? Wow! Think of it this way, when you go out to dinner, dessert is, typically never less than $4 a person. I live in Buffalo a nice cake from a decent baker costs $600 to feed 150-175 people. Which is about the same price per head (but decorations and such do add cost.)

You could try having a small cake for the cake cutting and going the sheet cake route, for the venue to cut in the back. Once you add more layers to the cake, the work becomes more intricate and the job becomes a little more difficult. Your guests do not see the sheet cake, it does not need as much decoration, but it will have the same flavor and frosting as your wedding cake. And if you do not care so much about the cake, your local grocery store can make one. It may not be the best cake your guests ever had (my grocery store actually has an amazing bakery), but it will be nice for pictures and gets the job done. Also try your local boards for reviews and recommendations for affordable bakeries. Good luck cake shopping.

600 guests?! 1,000+ doesn't seem like alot given the number of guests. If budget is a concern, I'd cut the guest list down.

Those quotes sound ludicrously cheap for a 600 serving cake! I paid over $500 for a cake with 75 servings -- and that was a pretty low quote for my area.

600 guests??? Yes, I would say $1000 would be a low estimate. I would expect to pay way more. You have that many guests, there is no way around having a very expensive wedding.

We paid almost $1000 for 120, which was expensive, but it fit into my budget. I desperately wanted this one baker, who is one of the more expensive in the area. The cake was gorgeous and was the best tasting wedding cake I've ever had, so I consider it worth it.

We had cupcakes and for 130 guests we paid $500 (which also included delivery, set up and the rental of the cupcake stand).

For 600 guests I would be shocked if you spent anything less then $1000.

OP, keep in mind that the cost of the cake goes up the more elaborate and decorative you want the cake to be. So if you want to not spend a lot then keep the decorations simple. But still expect to spend a good chunk of change considering you need enough cake to feed 600 people.

Finally, if you are getting worked up over a $1000 price tag for a cake I do not know how you are coping handling the food costs for 600 guests.

We are having 200 guests, and are having cupcakes...but also having a small two tier cake. We are paying $400 and that includes any flavors of cupcakes we want (filled or not), delivery, set up, boxes for take home cupcakes if anyone wants to, and she will also take the cupcake towers back to the place we are renting them from the day after.

I am paying $6.00 per slice for my wedding cake. The price will vary greatly based on your location, flavors, and decoration. I think the prices that you quoted are amazing for the number of guests that you are having and I couldn't imagine finding something cheaper than that.

I think it sounds very reasonable. We had a guest list of 110 and paid $1,200 for our cake. We are a in a fairly high cost of living area, though, - Southern California and had some blown sugar decor which is expensive for labor.

I'm having less than 200 people and we are paying 725 total for a 3 tier cake (simple decoration) and a sheet cake and that includes delivery. For 600 people I would bet it would be at least $1000.

I haven't really been able to find desserts for less than $3/pp whether it's cake or cupcakes, so I'd say that $1000 is actually incredibly reasonable. If it were $3/pp (which is relatively low from what I've seen) I'd expect to pay $1800 for a pretty plain cake going by that.

That seems incredibly inexpensive for that many guests. We are paying close to $500 for ours including the grooms cake and that is suppose to feed 150 guests.

She has 4x as many guests as you do. So if you quadruple your cake quote it would be $2,000. Granted you wouldn't have 4 grooms cakes but I don't see how your math makes her quote incredibly expensive at around $1,000.

We're paying just under $1500 for a cake for 200 guests as well as a groom's cake that will feed about 50-75 people. We live in a high-cost area, and both cakes have a high level of design/decorating.

We are doing a sweets table for 400 guests, aim actually ordering a small 3 layer cake (to cut for photos) and 600 cupcakes $2100. We did the 1.5 rule even through we do other items going on the table because who doesn't love a good cupcake.

If you can get a pretty wedding cake for 600 people for $1000...I envy you.

$300 for 85 servings. Three tiered cake, all the same gluten-free flavor. Includes delivery. I live in central Texas where the standard of living is a little lower. It was sooooo yummy at the tasting so I am very very excited about it!

I got a significant discount on my cupcakes because my family has been using this lady for 20+ years for everything but if I had paid full price it would have been 4-4.50 a cupcake depending on what I chose for decoration and fillings. She also included the anniversary cake at no charge. So 600 people would have been 2400 at a minimum. I am wondering if OP accidentally added a 0 and meant 60.

Ours averages out to $3.25 per serving for 200 servings - so just under $650 total. Lemon cake with fresh strawberries and cream cheese buttercream frosting, 3-tier cake with a simple texture/design for display/cutting, and the remaining servings coming from "kitchen cakes" (sheet cakes). We're doing cookies and pies as well.

I was quoted $250 for a 3-tier cake if my guest list stays around 75 people. It'll probably go up some so most likely I'll be paying $300ish.

The OP hasn't posted back, but I am going to assume her guest list is a typo and she has only 60 guests lol.

I cannot imagine you can get even the most simple cake for 600 people at $1000 or less
