Another name change Question...

Hey Ladies!

For name change:
Do you need to get your new social security card first?
or can I go to the DMV with only my marriage license and get a new license?
(what else do you need at the dmv?)

I wanted to get everything done Saturday and then I realized the SS office isn't open on weekends- duh... so I thought maybe I'd get the license done Saturday and the SS card next week

    The SS office told me that I needed to have that first. So I did. But if memory serves me, when we were at the DMV, I don't even think they asked to see the paper from SS...

    ETA: Perhaps it depends on which one you go to and who you get at the desk...??

    According to my new local PA DMV, you need the paper SS card to get a new license.

    Okay- guess I'll have to do it all next week (work from home day? dont mind if I do!)
    It doesn't cost for the new SS card right? Just a new license?

    I didn't pay for a new SS card.  I was in and out in about 10mins at the New Castle DE office!

    oh good!  sounds good to me...

    if only it's that fast at the DMV...  :-P  Maybe if I go on a wednesday it wont be as bad though

    I just got my new license and they didn't ask to see my paperwork from the SSA office.  However, I have no idea what pops up on their little computer, so maybe they just needed to verify the change in the system.  I agree though, I would do your SSN first to avoid having to go back anywhere.

    I thought you needed to get your SS card first too but when I went to the DMV they didn't need it. So I think it doesn't matter, at least in NJ.
