anyone else not doing a videographer?

Re: anyone else not doing a videographer?

  • We're not having one either. I'm the person that hides from a video camera. I really hate it. I cringe at the thought of how many people watched their wedding videos and had to see my goofy dancing. I just find it so embarrassing.

  • No interest in one here.  I don't want to watch myself.  We will have 2 photographers on-hand all day so we'll have plenty of photos to remember the day.  FI doesn't want a video either.

  • We didn't have one and we don't regret it. We used some of the money we saved on not having a videographer on hiring a better photographer. I like the idea of the video but I would find it weird to watch myself.

  • Nope, zero desire to have one. Much prefer pictures over video. I hate the sound of my voice.

  • I just want to mention for everyone saying "who wants to sit around and watch themselves?" that I'm getting it for completely different reasons. I still have all 4 grandparents and they aren't going to last much longer. I want the video to be mostly of them and my parents so myself and my future children can watch it after they pass. We never had a video camera so I don't have a single movie of anyone in my family and I know once they pass I'd love to hear my mom's laugh and stuff like that. I suppose I could just buy a video camera and film them anytime but still, I got a great deal on the vendor :)

  • No video for us.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Exactly this! And I just spoke with FI and since I found someone who can do it for a fraction of what the others cost, we're now having one! Yay!

  • As much as I want a videographer, FH and I are working on a tight wedding budget. We couldn't justify paying 3-4k for a 5-7 minute video; therefore, we decided to opt out on a wedding video. Anyone else doing this?
We aren't doing a videographer either.  I am self conscious enough having my photo taken, I didn't want to add a videographer on top of that.  Plus the ones doing the weddings I have been in were always super annoying.

I also can't imagine sitting down and watching the video later, but perhaps I will regret on having one *shrug*

Maybe one of our relatives could capture some of the critical moments on their smartphone.

  • We didn't have one.  We could afford one, just didn't want one.  No regrets,

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • we skipped it as well.  I was a little bummed at first afterwards because the day went so fast I could not remember a thing and the ceremony just flew by; but my best friends husband was awesome and actually video'd parts of the ceremony and reception so I now have a flash drive they gave me with a little 10 minute "highlights" of the day that I loved.  I just could not spend that much money on a video, but am so grateful I have the little "DYI" video.

We were going to do "flip a hit" (I saw it at a bridal expo) which was a company that sent you 4 of the flip cameras for the week of the wedding so you could video things on your own--so things leading up to the wedding (final fittings, rehearsal, etc) and then had bride and groom each film their sides of getting ready and have a guest video the ceremony or guests pass it around the reception, etc.  You then send the camera's back to them and make you a video.  We had a deal to get it for around $300 I think; but things just got hectic we just did not get around to making it happen, plus we had reservations and were back and forth of the whole "do we want to trust the camera's would not get damaged, or felt awkward saying here film this, etc."

    Anniversary
  • My uncle held a video camera. We didn't ask him to, he insisted. Which was fine, because it kept him from getting raging drunk and belligerent. It's nice to have a video of our cluster fuck of a ceremony (seriously, it's funny) but we haven't watched it since the day after. I like knowing it's there though. I can't see paying somebody over a grand for an edited version of events. I want to remember the day as it happened. So does H, since he got so drunk he doesn't remember half of the reception, which he regrets.
  • We opted for one and it is the only part of the budget where didn't look for "the best" vendor, we found a company to do it for $1000 including raw footage a 4-5 in highlight and a condensed 1 hour video.  Even if it's not the greatest quality at least it will be something for us to have.

  • My church is set up to video record the sermons. They offered to record our ceremony for free and send us the file. It won't have music or any graphics but it will be enough that I can show my grandmother the ceremony since she is unable to fly across the country.
