I liked SYTTD a lot more before getting engaged.

But now I just realize what entitled bitches most of these brides on.

It drives me crazy how the moms or grandmas threaten "well I won't write a check for that dress" and all I can think is "so what? Why is she trying on dresses she can't afford on her own anyway?!"

What shows (bridal related please!) do you like less or more due to your own bridal experiences?

I'm watching it now. The bride says her budget is $10,000. The consultant's first pick is $11,800. ???

    Wow.

The Atlanta one is on TLC right now and most of them are $2-3,000.

I think the only show I can watch now is four weddings other than that I don't like say yes to the dress or something borrowed something new or what ever it is. I am the same I loved them before I was engaged or newly engaged but now I'm two months from my wedding I could care less.

This happens on SYTTD alllllll the time. And alterations are on top of that (which many brides forget to budget for initially).

They get their dress paid for for appearing on the show though, don't they?

Mmmmm.... Not as far as I know. There are select few occasions when they'll donate a dress to a worthy bride, but they don't normally get the dress comped.

I hate four weddings.  All of those brides are judging every one else's weddings. To me, it is so rude, especially to do it at the wedding.   First of all, you are the only person who is going to love everything about your wedding. Not everyone has the same tastes, but that's okay as long as you love it and your guests are comfortable.
I do hate SYTTD.  I used to like it, but now, there is crazy drama with that show.  I only watch it, now, if it is muted... just to look at the dresses.  But, if you watch SYTTD you have no idea that dresses aren't a minimum of $2,000.  I think it is very misleading, and makes women feel if they don't want to spend at least $2,000, then they do not care about what they look like on their wedding day.  Bring back Friends!!!! I HATE reality television.  It is so scripted and they create drama just to make it "more" interesting.  And the artificial drama added to dress shopping is a bad example for brides to follow when shopping... some of them are so rude to their wedding party or bridal consultants.

In those instances I actually feel bad for bride who wants to wear a dress she loves and has taken the offer of her mom/grandma/whatever gave her and therefore budgeted/counted on that (I know, you shouldn't count on any money until it is in your hand).  And then, everything she loves the relative hates and her dream dress is being dissed.

I just can't believe the people that the brides bring with her. "You can put your lip gloss in the slit of the dress!" "You can sneeze and there would be a poof of feathers!" "You could go to the casino after the wedding in that dress!"

Lol. My mom's reactions to my dresses: "It's white!" "Yup it's a dress." "I dunno, do YOU like it." Very anticlimactic.
    Yeahhhh, exactly.

I got, "............so, what do you think?" Me: "Yeah, I think I like this one best." Mum: "Are you sure?" Me: "Yup. I'm done -- I love it." Mum: "Good. I knew this was the one as soon as I saw it hanging up."

    Of course you did haha

Ughhhh! PPD woman just agreed to not only wear her wedding dress again to her PPD, but she also bought a second, $12 000 gown to change into.

Why does no one in her family see a problem with this? I understand the store going with it because they benefit from the sale. But come on...

We are going to a salon tomorrow for this dress I've been obsessed with for almost a year, and I'm completely excited for it. I asked for her opinion based off a Google picture of it, and she just said it was "cute".

Little does she know, it is the most beautiful, fun, adorable, awesomess dress ever. She will see tomorrow.

DH absolutely did not want to see my dress before the wedding.  I would watch SYTTD and he would comment on some of the dresses.  Once I bought the dress he was worried he would say he didn't like a dress that looked like mine.

As someone in sales, I will call my customer whatever the fuck they want to be called if it can buy me dinner.

And then I snark about them over wine.

I know we say "he who pays gets a say" but sometimes, I just want to reach through the screen and smack the Brides parents/controllingFI/bitchysister/cuntyfriend/randomjackassoffthestreet are you wearing the fucking dress? Is the bride happy and under budget? THEN STFU.

@chibiyui yesyesyesyes. "I don't like _____." You don't like it FOR HER for you don't like it FOR YOU. Because those are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.

So funny you day that because I noticed SYTTD was on a bit ago and thought about how I hadn't watched it in a long time. Watched it for maaaybe 2 minutes before turning it off because I just couldn't handle it.
  • Options
I think the only episode of SYTTD I ever watched was one where the bride was 17, mom was against her getting married so young, and kept making comments about it, but was buying her a $6,000 dress anyway. I did not understand her logic.

My mother cried when I picked my dress. They were not happy tears.

I used to watch it a lot because I LOVE sewing gowns and liked looking at the dresses for ideas.  Now that I'm somewhat competent as far as what is/is not acceptable for weddings (I thought it was normal to be annoying when you're a bride and that everyone just puts up with it.  I didn't realize other people were as annoyed as I was and that there were specific etiquette rules being broken.) the show just makes me roll my eyes sometimes.

A lot of these girls are just SO entitled- one was 27, lived at home, had no career aspirations whatsoever, and was having this giant wedding and sky is the limit dress budget with her FI paying for it all.  I know funds are shared, but seriously, why contribute NOTHING and expect so much to be shelled out for you?

And I absolutely fucking hate that pnina tornai with the see through fucking midriff that someone shells out 10 grand for EVERY FUCKING EPISODE.

My grandpa used to joke about going on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  And my grandma told him they would never put him on the show because he wouldn't get excited enough.  They want drama and screams and tears and shrieks on any reality show. They can't get ratings with someone who doesn't do all that.

I used to love SYTTD. FMIL and I would watch it all the time, but mostly we would ignore the comments and just look at the dresses and talk about what we liked and what we didn't like and that sort of thing. I had fully intended to design my own dress and have a friend make it up for me, so it was interesting to see what's out there - especially the stuff for plus-size brides.

I did 4 designs myself. All of them got mild "If that's what you want", or "Yes, that would be flattering" responses from Mom, FMIL, and FI. Then I remembered seeing something years ago on a website and knowing that I would never be able to afford it (not to mention they don't make it in my size) so I had put it out of my head. I showed FI and he wolf-whistled. That's when I knew it was the one!

I like watching that show but I know if you signed up to shop in Manhattan on a reality show you're looking for attention. And there's just no way I'd EVER wear a lingerie inspired wedding dress. Thankfully that is something I've never had to witness IRL.
