FB needs more options

So, fed up with rampant inanity today, I went through my FB newsfeed and 'hid' a bunch of people I don't want to see status updates from. I'll probably go back in a while and delete them, but that's not the point at the moment.

FB kept asking me, 'Why do you want to hide this person?'

It did not have the following options:
-- Inane posts by chronic vague-bookers and over-sharers
-- Copious amounts of unnecessary hashtags
-- Too much unfiltered political crap
-- Inability to tell the difference between real news sites and satirical sites like The Onion

Clearly FB isn't paying attention to what people post.

    Holy hell, YES!!

And what about the "excessive narcissism" option??

I go through a FB cleanse every 6 months or so and purge/hide as needed. I'd be lying if I didn't admit I keep a couple "train wrecks" for shits & giggles on a bad a day, though.

  • For real.

The one I really couldn't deal with was the girl who needs everyone on facebook to know how great her relationship is every single day. Turns out they broke up a couple weeks after they unfollowed her.

  • I cannot stand the political crap. I have someone on my feed who is always complaining about the President, the Mayor, this country, the system.... if it's that serious, get a job in politics or something instead of posting all this crap. I also hate gym selfies. I'm all for working out and being healthy, but do I need to see a selfie oof you posing in front of the weights? How much working out are you really doing that you are taking a picture of your supposed time on the treadmill? Just get your damn workout in and STFU!

  • From the movie "Cats and Dogs", Mr. Tinkles responds "Why? Because I hate you." Perfect.

"Because I hate them." <---- one stop shop, covers all!

  • I have a friend, well, she's really more of an acquaintance but she's the only young person in the village that I actually know and talk to, so yeah. Anyway, she recently went through something incredibly traumatic, and since then she has posted nothing but religious babble (which she never posted before) and selfies.

She's an aspiring alt model so I get the selfies, but 20+ in a day is overkill. And the religious stuff is just... For someone who has made her name from being alternative, non-conformist, open-minded etc she sure posts a lot of judgemental, intolerant crap...

I hid one of her posts, and 2 seconds later it was back in my feed. FB is full of shit.

  • I discovered the option to hide people a few weeks ago.

My cousin shared a video of a fetus inside of the amniotic sac but outside of the womb and wrote something about how terrible it is that people are "pro-abortion".

It was 8am on a Monday. No thanks.

My biological dad was also hidden that day because he posted that he was diagnosed with melanoma and his doctor suggested he alert his children because it's hereditary so "consider yourselves told." Thanks, dad. And if it's not something dramatic and attention-sucking like that then he's bashing the president and and anyone that's not a hard-core conservative.

  • I enjoy that "copious amounts of unnecessary hashtags" made the list.

Also, agree with the selfies and the relationship drama. There was a girl I went to school with who kept trying to add me, so I finally gave in -- all of her posts were either stuff from FB games, or really depressing memes about hating someone you were in a relationship with because they supposedly hurt/'broke' you, etc. (I'm assuming these were directed to her mystery baby daddy). It got old REALLY fast.

And can we please add in, "crazy current/future cat lady"?

It's AWESOME -- it's a great way to not see crap from people that you otherwise like (or can't/don't want to unfriend). I hid a bunch of people last night. Some of them I'll probably unfriend later, and some of them I don't mind being friends with -- like I don't mind them seeing my stuff -- but they post SO DAMN MANY photos of their pets or their food or their workouts or whatever that I'm just like, 'Yeah, OK, no, I'm done with you.'

  • Everyday check ins to the gym or whatever workout related. Ok great, good for you but I don't care if you go to the gym everyday.
  • Have y'all seen this << blog post titled, "7 Ways to Be Insufferable on FB"? It's pretty awesome ;)
