Less money on flowers= works for me!

So I met with florists over the weekend and wasn't really sure of what I wanted. After thinking it over and talking to them each I was able to narrow it down. So I was in the middle of emailing one company the changes to my quote to get a re-quote and FI was sitting next to me. So I just happened to ask him "Hey do you want your stem wrapped in green, white, or black?" He looked at me baffled and said "I don't want a stupid flower." We are very nontraditional people (he's not even wearing a suit jacket) so I said "ok sweet!" Glad I bothered to ask him because I would have just gone ahead and ordered them for all the men and wasted money hahaha.

  • I'm happy that you're saving money, but I'll admit to cringing while reading the phrase "stupid flower" -- I'm SUCH a flower person haha. I'm that person who had extra room in the budget and a place to put more flowers, and it leapt at the chance while FI laughed and shook his head at me. If I could cover everything in flowers, I SO would!

  • Lol awesome. I'm not much of a flower person myself, so I hope to keep the flower budget low. It annoys me how expensive flowers are going to turn out to be regardless!

  • Yeah I love flowers but holy cow do they add up fast. I went in with a modest budget with the idea that maybe sticking with sunflowers would keep things reasonable. Yeah, not so much. So I'm just going to make paper ones for about $50 instead of my original budget of $500 (which is a pretty low budget for flowers, but come on $500 is still a big chunk of money!).

  • Yea, growing up my mom was allergic to all flowers so we never had them at the house. So I have no love for flowers at all. I always knew my bouquet would be like the only flowers at my wedding lol.

@fiancb what area are you in? I was quoted for 3 bouquets, 3 mens, 2 dads, 2 moms $340 in Massachusetts. (mom claims since she moved across the countries she's not allergic anymore) Hydrangeas, freesia and roses.

I got my quote in a small town in OR. Two florists pretty much said the same thing. Generally stuff isn't super costly there. I think I was quoted for 4 BM bouquets, bridal bouquet, 5 boutonnieres. I can't remember if that was cutting out moms/dads or not. Now that I'm planning in a different state I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look into it again, but so far I'm finding things to be more $$$ in MN than OR so I'm not getting my hopes up.Sounds like you got a steal, especially for east coast!

  • @fiancb Remember to check less than obvious places, too...that quote was from a grocery store floral department as opposed to a stand alone florist.

  • @jenna8984 same thing happened to me this past weekend. We budgeted $1000 for flowers are were quoted $300 for my bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, 3 corsages and 4 bouts. My dad's old assistant referred me to them and she's best friends with the owner so we got a 30% discount, but still we were prepared to pay $1000 for everything. Now we have money left over for favors (cookies. NOM).

  • I was one of those people that didn't think flowers were important until I went to a wedding with really bad fake ones. It convinced me to spend the money because people will notice.

  • @buddysmom80 Yaay that's awesome!!!

@hobokenbride2012 I agree, I don't like the cheesy look of fake flowers. I'm going the route of none (besides my awesome bouquet and my BM bouquets I wouldn't go cheap on that). I'm getting married outside on a mountain so there's more than enough nature happening that people won't be looking around for flowers lol.

  • We're buying in bulk on-line and making our own center pieces, bouquets and bouts. I've been a bridesmaid in 3 weddings in the last year and 2 of them did exactly what we're doing. Everything looked beautiful and was about half the cost! Yay!
  • FiancB where in MN are you looking?  I'm using Bachman's and it's going to be right around $300 for my bouquet, 3 BM's bouquets, 4 boutonnieres, and 3 corsages (and the wedding's in May so I even scored peonies!).  I think their only wedding department is in Mpls though.

I wanted to have real flowers because I really like them (my mom kept trying to talk me into doing fake, which I have seen done well, I'd just rather have real).  If your groom doesn't care/actively does not want then WIN!
  • We are only using flowers for the bouquets, bouts and corsages... no centerpieces or anything..and I spent 150 or so for silk flowers that look really lovely.

I generally do not like the look of a bout pinned to a button down shirt so since the guys aren't wearing jackets I think it's an excellent call to nix them and I'm glad that it's saving you money, OP!
