While it's not a requirement, I love the idea of choosing a print dress for my BMs. Our wedding is in October and we are planning an outdoor ceremony in a park. I found this dress, which I pretty much love. Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts?

It's very pretty. When in October? If it's later in the month, that might be too cold for them to wear.

Also, if you have any big-chested BMs, that neckline isn't the most flattering.

But I love the dress -- very pretty!

I think print is fantastic and wish more people would use it for "formal" occasions.

I would wear it in a heartbeat and be thrilled because I could wear it again and again and again. Depending on where you are you may want to consider getting some matching pashminas or the like so that if it is cool out that day your BMs can wrap themselves up a bit.

My BMs are wearing a print dress, too! I love it, very nice. As long as they feel comfortable in it and it's in budget, I say go for it! I'm getting married in October as well in Santa Barbara, so they should be comfortable before the sun goes down. Then they can put on a little jacket or sweater. If it happens to be chilly that week, then I will buy them something to cover up. Here's the dress they're wearing:

Of course, October is funny. I was a BM in my BFs October wedding and it was 70 degrees!

I hate plain bridesmaids dresses and wholeheartedly endorse anything that breaks from tradition. Go for it!

The ceremony will take place during late October in NE Ohio. We're cautiously optimistic about the weather and are planning an afternoon ceremony in hopes the sun will still be shining to warm things up if it's chilly. Pashminas are already being considered (I've been trying to find 3/4 sleeve dresses, but have been unsuccessful in finding them in our color palette).

Of course, we also have an ceremony Plan B in case it's rainy, ridiculously windy, snowy (God forbid), too damn cold, or all of the above. Fortunately, our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception are all taking place at the same location, making it easy to head indoors if necessary. (Please don't be necessary, please don't be necessary!

You may have better luck with this the closer you get to your wedding, like around late July and August when the fall items start coming out.

@Maggie0829 I've been looking since last fall and haven't had any luck. I've tried everything from bridal salons to department stores (and everything in between, including stores like Ann Taylor, NY&Co., The Limited, etc.). I'll find something I love, but it won't come in the right color, or it'll be a weird length, or be ungodly expensive. It's been a long search!

@ElcaB - then I think you should stick with the dress you posted. It is really pretty and they can easily wear a wrap or a cardigan if they get cold.

And yeah, a dress search, especially when you want a print dress, can be a headache of a venture.

I see it more as a year round type of dress, depending on how you accessorize it.

Spring/Summer/early Fall - pair of strappy heels and a light weight wrap just in case.

Late Fall/Winter - tights with either a pair of closed toe heels or ankle boots and a cardigan/jacket.

I really love it! I've attended a wedding where the some of the bridal party wore floral dresses and others wore solid dresses in a coordinating color, depending on their taste. They all looked amazing, separately and together!

Love pattern.

I agree that you should find a cardigan/shawl/pashmina for it.

I also like that even without a cover-up, the straps are wide enough to hide bra straps for anyone more well-endowed.

I just want to say as a "big-chested girl"...36DDD here...that v-neck cut dresses are much more flattering on me than something that cuts straight across the chest or has a higher neckline. V-neck, a shallow scoop, or sweetheart with enough coverage always go over better. The only issue I see with the dress is that the V is pretty deep but I've always solved that problem in the past by sewing the V (or using safety pins to hold it) up by an inch or two as necessary.

I think the dress is gorgeous and can be very "fall" with the right style of shoes and possibly a wrap in a complementary color in case it's chilly!

I like the dress, but personally I'm not a fan of floral prints.

From a wearable standpoint I would have concerns about the way the sleeve hits the shoulder. It isn't quite a cap sleeve and isn't quite sleeveless and if any of your girls have thicker arms it won't be flattering. If everyone wears a cardigan it won't matter, but I wouldn't be able to take the cardigan off and still feel comfortable.

That floral print actually strikes me as very "fall" because of all the red (pink and purple) and the dark background.

As a bustier gal, also agreed: V-neck is often much more flattering. And I have PRETTY big upper arms and broad shoulders, and I think that would be more flattering than either true cap sleeves or skinnier straps.

I also think that a plain black cardigan would totally work with that, if it ends up being cold. Same with dark tights.

I'm a 32DD and I completely agree with this. High necklines, straight strapless, and square necklines tend to give me tube boob; however, anything with a dip or a V is much more favourable, and can always be adjusted for modesty.

@pumpkinsandturkeys Loling at "Tube boob"! I love it! How have I not come up with this description before? I seriously just spent over an hour trying on dresses for engagement photos and there were some dresses where tube boob was really the only thing that could be said for it.

lmhollister -- I love saying tube boob. And you're right -- sometimes, it really is the only description! I can do *some* high necklines, if I'm wearing the right bra. But straight across is not a good look for me.

Pretty, but I would be concerned about any clinging my belly-pouch and that low neckline (I could wear a boob tube underneath the dress, though, to add more coverage).

We are planning to put the men in gray. Would that look weird with these dresses? My gut says no, but again, I can't seem to make any attire-related decisions during this process so input is appreciated.

Yes, grey would work. Since it is fall I would probably go with a darker grey, but that may just be me.
