TGIF chitchat

It's finally here! It is a bit cloudy outside today but I don't care because tomorrow I can sleep in.

Tonight, afterwork, FI and I are meeting up with some friends for drinks and immerse ourselves in the vast glorious open field that is the weekend! On Saturday my plan is to catch up with some much needed cleaning and on Sunday a friend of ours is hosting a BBQ Birthday Party. Yay for it being only a few short hours from weekend bliss!

What are your plans for the weekend?

Re: TGIF chitchat

  • I cannot wait for BBQ parties!!!!!!!! Have a fun weekend!

Today I leave from work and pick my friend up from the train station, then we're heading up to another friend's house for the weekend. We're going to drink, eat cupcakes and play CAH.

Saturday my parents are coming into town with their adorable Golden Retriever puppy! Oh yeah and I have to grocery shop. BORING.

Sunday my mom and I are going shopping, then I'm making lasagna for the family.

I'm probably forgetting something, but I'm TIRED.

  • FI's taking me to dinner tonight at our favourite restaurant, because we never did get our anniversary dinner with all the drama last month. Tomorrow we're heading into town to run errands for FMIL, which I find rather annoying since she was in town two days ago and could've done them herself. Other than that, we'll probably just hibernate 'cause the weather's gone funky.

  • I'm just so happy to be home on a Saturday and Sunday! After I drive back this afternoon, we're heading to the grocery store to pick out some food for a BBQ tonight. Tomorrow, by DH is running a 17K while I'll be enjoying a facial and pedi at the spa. We then have reservations at Fleming's on Saturday night. Unfortunately, I have to head back to the hotel on Sunday :(

  • Now I want cupcakes. Is noon too early?
It's always 5 o'clock somewhere :) But I think cupcake time can be any time!

  • well, I'm glad to hear all you ladies are pumped for awesome weekends!

Not so much on my end.  I wrote off my car yesterday (I'm okay - just really sore) by rear ending someone on the highway.  My boss has given me the day off work but I am headed in anyway to see the RMT.  He is opening up early because he wants to look at it sooner than later.  Other than that, it's sorting out a rental car, dealing with the insurance people, and looking at cars.  Awesome.

Tomorrow will be a quiet day around the house, likely doing a lot of the same as today - and cleaning.  Then Sunday is the motorcycle show that we've been looking forward to.  A bright spot on my weekend.
  • Happy Pi Day everyone!!!!  Yep - I come from that kind of nerdy family.

No big plans for the weekend but I think DH and I are going out to dinner tonight.  Woohoo...

  • This is been the longest week ever.

Tonight we're headed to a surprise birthday party at my friend's house.
Saturday - mani/pedis and shopping with FMIL. Then later my friends are coming over for dinner and wine.
Sunday we have no plans. FMIL is still visiting so we'll probably all do something together.
  • Morrrrrrningggggg!

I am le tired. Mass amounts of tired. My boss looked at me this morning and even said, "Wow -- you DO look like a zombie!" Thanks.

Tonight, I plan to drink and sleep. And then wake up, drink some more, and sleep some more.

Tomorrow morning, we have to drive down to meet with our pastor and discuss the ceremony logistics (yay!). Afterward, I'm going to get my gel mani re-done (double yay!). More drinking will probably ensue afterward.

Sunday will likely be laundry and grocery day.

Now, I just have to get through one. more. day. of. work.

  • Parents are in town visiting this weekend! We will probably putz around tomorrow. Sunday, FIs family is hosting us for lunch at their house. I am excited, but it is a bit of a PITA bc they live an hour and a half from here, so it is going to occupy the whole day.

  • We don't have anything set in stone...  We need to do some yard work to continue to prep for putting the house up for sale in a few weeks.  H wants to go to a bar to drink green beer to celebrate St. Patrick's day.  At some point this weekend I will be renting the new Veronica Mars movie and watch it while eating Bacon Popcorn.

We are trying to finalize plans with friends to go see a movie but everyone's schedules are all weird this weekend.

  • Once my boss found out it's my birthday today he said "oh really?! Oh you can totally take off after the noon meeting" SWEEET!! I normally prep my salads for lunch everyday but I didn't have time last night so looks like I'll be getting out early and stopping for some b-day sushi on my way home! And FI gave me my gift this morning- a queen size fleece heated blanket so since I'm always freezing I cannot wait to go hoe and wrap up in that!!

  • I'm getting off work 3 hours early today! Then facials with my girls tonight followed by a bonfire with them and our BFs/FIs.

Saturday: My FI and I are having a bon fire/field party/kegger. So I'll be cleaning our house all day (just so it can get dirty again) while he gets the fire and field ready. (We had a bad ice strm last week so everyone has tons of trees and limbs to burn).

Sunday: Hopefully relaxing (and probably sleeping off a hangover).

  • I'm so glad it's Friday!  Tomorrow I am taking my daughter to try on bridesmaid dresses (she's 9 and super excited about it), opening our first joint checking account with FI, and going to his family's St. Patrick's Day gathering!  And then Sunday we have church and after we are meeting with a super promising dj and then hanging out with friends in the afternoon/evening.  w00t!

  • Ummm Bacon popcorn sounds AMAZING!!!

I too feel that this week was exceptionally long. Today, FI and I want to do something after work but we don't have anything set in stone. Maybe I'll look up happy hour or a nice place for dinner . Tomorrow I plan on kickboxing possibly, and taking it easy all day, because Sunday I'll be running in the NYC Half Marathon!!! I am soooo nervous. It is my first half marathon, and I don't have any particular goals except that I want to finish it.Last night all my dreams were about the half marathon. But I am excited because it will be my first half marathon, and I'm so glad I made it this far without any major injuries!

After the half marathon I fully plan on using a Groupon I bought a few months ago for mac and cheese and beer. I know I will need all those yummy carbs!

Bacon popcorn??? Where do I acquire this????

    You MAKE it!  :)

When I first heard about it I thought it was gross (and I love bacon) but it is AMAZING!!!!  I got this recipe from the chef who made it for me.  It took me a few times to get it right.

First, start saving your bacon grease until you get a cup or so (more is better)...  It keeps fine in a glass/stainless steel bowl in the fridge without a cover.

Once you have enough grease pull it out of the fridge so it softens up.  Then you take unpopped popcorn and mix it up with the bacon grease until it is nice and covered.  Put it in a container with a lid and put it back in the fridge for at least 48 hours so the flavor soaks in.

When you are ready to make the popcorn for real you put a spoonful of bacon grease into a pan with a lid and heat it up over medium high heat.

Once it melts put in 2-3 kernals into the pan.  When those pop the pan is hot enough to make the popcorn.  Dump as much as you want into the pan and keep it covered.  Shake the pan ever few minutes so it doesn't burn the unpopped kernals on the bottom.

When it is finished popping sprinkle with salt and eat it until you get sick.  :)

I now keep a pyrex container in the fridge with the bacon soaked kernels so we can have it whenever we want.  Waiting for it to be "ready" the first time was tough.

  • @HisGirlFriday13 -- what, no drinks with the ditz after the fish fry? ;)

  • I'm so glad it's Friday the week has just dragged.  Nothing exciting going on at all this weekend. FI is still working on redoing the kitchen.  I'll be working on my lines, my show opens next weekend and I need to work on putting invites together.  I can't believe 3 months from today is the day...

    Anniversary

    No. So not funny.

I still haven't responded to her e-mail, either, which I know I *should* do, but I don't want to.

    Wow. This sounds amazing.

BTW, this week has definitely dragged on longer than it should.

@pinkcow13 Good luck on your half marathon and enjoy your well-deserved mac and cheese!

  • I am leaving with a friendish to go to her shower/bachelorette party. It's a 4 hour drive away, so we're leaving today, the party's tomorrow and we won't be back til Sunday.

I'm kinda nervous about it. I don't know this girl super well (our FI's are friends and coworkers so we hang out by default, but not really apart from our FIs) and we'll hang out/stay with people I don't know at all. And I don't love the idea of being gone all weekend. But I'm sure by the end I'll be glad I did. It's just hard to convince my introverted self of that sometimes. At least I know I don't have to worry about driving the whole time so I will be drinking all the booze.

Bacon makes everything better. A couple thanksgivings ago I did a bacon themed meal with a bacon wrapped turkey and bacon wrapped green beans and bacon bits in some roasted sweet potatoes. It was awesome. And I'm a fan of the Voodoo bacon maple donut, so I shall try bacon popcorn too.

    FRIDAY? Oh, happy day!
    image

Last week & weekend we had family in town for a special occasion and, though I love spending time with the family, I had zero time to myself. Do you know what I have planned this weekend? NOTHING, and it feels glorious.

  • The weather is going to be amazing tomorrow, so I might haul my bicycle out for a 10-mile ride.  I also plan on checking out the Veronica Mars movie, maybe on Sunday when it gets cold again!

Oh, good luck! Not a runner but I hang out with a lot of them and the NYC Half is loads of fun. There is a lot of crowd support. Good luck! You should try Brooklyn next :)

@AprilH81 I HAVE GOT TO TRY THIS! I make my popcorn on the stove (I never use the microwave kind) with butter. But OMG, with bacon grease?! That could be heavenly.

P.S. Y'all try popcorn with some cheddar (or any sharp cheese). I know it sounds weird but it is sooo good! I've converted all of my friends to it :)
