RIU Cancun

Has anyone ever been to Riu Cancun or had/attended a wedding there?

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

    I stayed there about nine years ago, and I remember the hotel being really nice, but it didn't feel tropical at all or like we were in Mexico.  I'm not sure if this is still the case, but the giant hotel blocked the whole pool and beach area pretty early in the afternoon. In hindsight, I realize the food was decent, but it was also my first time at an AI, so with nothing to compare it to, I thought it was fantastic at the time. :) 

    Not that it's the same, but we stayed at another one of the Riu resorts in Cancun a few months ago, and while it wasn't horrible or anything, we wouldn't stay at another Riu again.  The food is so-so, and we just didn't dig the kind of euro-style decor while in Mexico.
