Bridesmaids Dresses

Going this weekend to try and find the dresses with one of my bridesmaids. I kind of put things off for one of my other bridesmaids who has been trying to lose weight. I adore her the way she is and want to make sure she is comfortable but we have hit the wall of 'this must get done now' and 'time is of the essence.' She had outwardly voiced her concerns when I had previously brought up the dresses. Stating she wanted to lose weight first and asked if we could wait to go shopping. I don't think any of my bridesmaids need to change a damn thing but I was (am) of course worried about her being happy and comfortable.

Hopefully we can find one that works (or different ones if necessary) so that I can check this baby off my list. Feeling like I am getting behind in planning and it is terrible. Trying to get back on top of things! Wish me luck!

Re: Bridesmaids Dresses

  • This is my exact story right now!! My maid of honor is in med school and is at that junction where classes are done and she has 3 months to study for board exams. So she's been locked in her house for 3 months studying, she won't even turn her cell phone on (which is understandable!). So she's taking the exam today and we're going shopping Saturday. My other bridesmaid is the completely opposite size/ weight/ body type so she's worried about finding something in her size. I expressed that I prefer the "Macy's cocktail dress" style more than typical dresses from a bridal store so she's worried that Macy's won't have her size in the dresses we like. Fingers crossed that we all come out happy on this one (and that my friend becomes a doctor)!!

Good luck! Just remind your BM who wanted to lose weight that almost any dress can be taken in to accommodate future weight loss up to a certain point in the timeline.

What kind of dresses will you looking for? Do you have anything already in mind?

  • I'm really glad to hear that you're taking your BMs into account like that, but man, do I not envy you.

I only have one lady standing up with me. She's teeny tiny, and has a great sense of style, so I've told her that as soon as my dress is finalised, she and her sister (who's a designer) are free to pick/create anything she wants so long as it isn't long - in any shade/s of green she likes, with navy blue elements if she so desires.

I can't even imagine how stressed out I would be if I had to co-ordinate more people.

I had one in mind but it does not seem feasible (price wise) so I am open at this point. I know I want them to be teal and have more classic lines. I seem to gravitate towards the shorter dresses as it will probably be pretty warm out.

My MOH suggested longer and the other girls seem on board but I thought shorter would allow them to wear again (maybe)?  I wouldn't want to be standing outside in early September in a long dress if it's 80 some degrees out. Didn't think they would either but it appears they do. We have some appointments set up so we will see what looks good on them.

@urbaneca - Lucky! I couldn't pick just one (greedy me)! My girls range from little and slim to an average but curvier size. They are 5' 6'' to 5' 0'' so we have to sort out what will work. I hope we find something to make everyone happy.

I can tell you I am not a fan of trying to coordinate my schedule and everyone else at the same time.  I love them though so I am willing to bust up my schedule a little to accommodate. They do the same for me at times. Luckily they are all very sweet and understanding. Plus I know the day of they will be right there cheering us on. I really cannot wait for that.
