High Expectations?!?

Re: High Expectations?!?

  • Yes, this is my only shower.
Unfortunately, you cannot force your MOH to follow etiquette. There are 3 options for what you can do: 1. Cancel the shower. 2. Pay for all the food and drink at your venue 3. Shift the venue to your house and pay for all the food and drink(this could be considered hosting your own shower, but given the circumstance, I think you'll be ok)

Could you talk to her and tell her, "I am not comfortable having a shower where the guests are not properly hosted." You could then tell her if that a restaurant is too high for her budget, that you'd be happy to have it at someone's house.
  • To the OP:  Your mom, as the host of the wedding, needs to communicate to your entire group of MOH and BMs before your mom takes the brunt of this wedding-related etiquette mess.  The shower is hosted by the MOH and assisted by the BMs.  No payment of any kind is to be expected of the GIFT GIVING GUESTS.

To the Potluck people:  POTLUCK does NOT mean HOME-MADE.  POTLUCK means that you bring food.  ANY food.  Home-made or store-bought.  If the host wants to have some kind of HOME-MADE ONLY RECIPE EXCHANGE, then the event is NOT a POTLUCK and needs to be titled and explained with these special restrictions on what is appropriate to bring.

    What decade are you from?

It does not matter who's hosting the wedding, whether it be OP or her parents or her partner's parents. All that matters is that the MOH is hosting the shower, and doing so poorly. OP either needs to convince her to host it properly or decline altogether.
