Tacky April Fools Day jokes

Is anyone else's facebook filled with tacky April Fools Day joke? Mine is. A "friend" posted that today she is wishing her daughter a happy 5th birthday. She goes on to exlpain that she made a hard decision to give the child up for adoption, how she wasnt ready to be a parent, etc. She even included a picture. I am 100% certain she has never been pregnant or had a baby. 5 years ago we were ripping shots at the bar. And she is deleting any comments that call her out on her "joke."

Am I being a Sensitive Sally? Or is this in really poor taste? Have you seen an April Fools Day joke that have rubbed you the wrong way?

Re: Tacky April Fools Day jokes

  • The ones where they post "we're expecting!" "Just kidding!" Rub me the wrong way. Having gone through miscarriages and family/friends that aren't able to conceive, these jokes have been hurtful more for them than for me but I dislike them too
  • There's nothing funny about that at all.

I'm not a big prankster but that seems awful.

  • I posted about this in my 'crankypants' thread, and @banana468 made a great point about how posting that you're PG isn't funny for those who are struggling with infertility.

  • That joke is completely absurd and gross.

I find all April Fools Day jokes to be dumb.

  • I think I would be more okay with it if she wasnt going to such lengths to keep this joke going. But I hate April fools day in general

  • I thought the first letter in Dear Prudence today was going to be an April Fools Joke and it wasn't.  It was about twin brother's where the one twin had a one night stand with a girl and the next morning gave his brother's info.  Girl texts twin brother and twin brother checks out the girl on FB and realizes they have a lot in common.  So twin brother starts dating this girl and now wants to marry her.  But the girl doesn't know that she's been seeing the twin brother of the guy she had the one night stand with!

I had a friend from high school who's older brother hid his gf's pregnancy from his parents.  The gf was teeny tiny and even while pregnant and visiting the family, no one ever noticed.  So when the baby is born, older brother calls his parents to tell them the news finally.  Except they don't believe him, because the baby was born on April Fool's Day.  Eventually the baby started crying in the background and the news sunk in.

  • An acquaintance of mine posted on FB that his girlfriend (who he's totally gaga over and she is as well) dumped him.  It was stupid.

I have a FB friend who posted an ultrasound picture and said "I'm so surprised! But excited! 8 weeks along!" This girl is out every night partying. She's probably drunk 6 hours out of every day, and that's not an exaggeration.

I think it's so stupid when people do this.

ETA: I just found the picture she posted on Google:

ETAAgain: And she's deleting all comments from people who are calling her out on it...even though I'm pretty sure the date in the top right is 1994?

  • I thought about prancing H and saying I was pregnant (JUST H, not posting it all over FB), but then I remembered I just finished my period a couple days ago, so it probably wouldn't fool him.

It is why I am so annoyed with my fb "friend." She actually texted me to say she deleted my comment because she wants to keep the joke going. ::smh::

  • I'm one of those buzzkills who just doesn't like pranks. Even relatively harmless ones. DH was laughing about how his coworkers covered a guy's cubical in tin foil and all I could think about is what a pain in the ass that would be!

These people must be hurting for some attention.

A few years ago, two of my coworkers did this to a guy's cubicle, and then placed the leftover rolls of tin foil on my desk and another lady's so it looked like we did it!

I thought it was hilarious! They individually wrapped his pens and literally everything in his office short of the desk itself and the walls.

I really don't like pranks. They're really not funny.

I'm okay with some of the April Fools stuff online that's really just silly. For example, Google's annual gag is always pretty good for a chuckle. Apartment Therapy has some posts about decorating with live giraffes and covering all your furniture with plastic.

My friend, who's a slackliner, wrote a fake article for our university's newsletter about how a bunch of slackliners were arrested for walking a highline between dorms. It's very silly, but she managed to fool her parents, who were looking up info for local lawyers, so that didn't end terribly well.

I told J that if he played a prank on me, the wedding was off. I'm not playing any on him either.

  • I don't mind April Fools Day pranks as long as they aren't tacky.  FI hates all of them...he left this little love note on our weekly planner just in case I forgot...

  • I hate April Fool's Day.  I'm always glad when the day is over and we're on to April 2nd.

  • When I was about 12, I glued a quarter to the wooden step between our garage and our house. Fooled people all day.

I must have used Krazy-Glue, though, because that thing was on the step for YEARS -- it was the April Fool's Day joke that just.kept.on.giving.

I'm also pretty sure that was the last joke I played on anyone for April Fool's Day.

  • I always look forward to the jokes on Google, Think Geek, YouTube, NPR and the like, but I think fake pregnancies and break ups are a step too far.
  • Ammenn, I hate this day. My sister was almost an AF baby. Her bday is tomorrow! Haha sometimes I wonder what might have come if she was born on AF day.

  • Somebody at FIs work sprayed air freshener or something on his chair so he'd get a wet butt. He's not too happy about that.

OTOH a few months ago one of the kids he teaches snuck into his room and put googly eyes on everything. His laptop has a pair on the lid. That was funny and he left most of them around.

Amazon Student said on facebook they're rolling out a service where students can send in their dirty laundry and they will return it, washed and folded, 2 days later free shipping. If only.

  • I got an email from Fresh Direct about new "Eagle Caught Salmon" they were offering. I was a little disappointed in the Think Geek products this year-nothing will ever beat the TaunTaun sleeping bag.

But FB pranks annoy the shit out of me. There's one on my feed right now that says

"Well this sucks. The bank just called and apparently our first lenders are trying to take our house. There's a complication with papers we signed regarding our occupancy and they're saying we lied and they're within their rights to withhold the lien. W. T. F??? I can't believe this"

    How is that funny?

Ryan seacrest just made me die a little inside with a fake news story about an nsync reunion :(

ETA: FSS just tried telling me he dropped and shattered my new casserole dish. Seeing how FI took it to work with him to have leftovers for lunch it was obviously meant as his attempt as a prank, but I got him back by telling him Xbox live was cancelled til I replaced it. Took him a few minutes of freaking out to realize he was outsmarted :)

There's a special place in Hell for people like that.  A very special place.
  • The Walking Dead Comics book did a joke (which I fell for it) about how they released the comic book cover of Daryl Dixon. Daryl doesn't exist in the comics. I was freaking excited and then I realized it was a joke.
