save the date - website information

Hi knotties -

Just got my save the date order in yesterday and they look fab!  On the save the date - I have wedding website information listed.  I'm worrying though because apart from the "about us" section, no details are filled in yet -- so I'm hesitating to send the save the dates out.

We have our reception venue, but do not have our ceremony location yet which is why I did not want to list anything in "wedding events" before the information was complete.  We are still working on hotel blocks too.

Do you think I should have these pages up, but with a "Details are still being decided" or "more information to come for the [ceremony / hotel block]  or just leave these pages off for now and unhide them when I get more details.

Or should I wait until more details are finalized (next couple weeks or so) before I send them?

I'm not sure if it really matters, as other posts have noted that guests don't normally look at wedding websites until invitations arrive anyway (although, I ALWAYS check the website out).

Thanks for your help!

Re: save the date - website information

  • I would hold off on sending them until you have a ceremony location booked.  You never know what may happen and you may have to move your date around due to the ceremony location.  Have those main details set in stone first and then send the STDs.

As for the different pages, you can always add information as you go along but you can always put something like "Details to come" on those pages that you can't fill in just yet.

Personally, I don't really look at the website at all and if I do it isn't until it gets a bit closer to the wedding because I just assume that a lot of details haven't been worked out 9-12 months in advance.

  • Dont send them until your ceremony location is booked. I dont consider dates set in stone until deposits have been made at the reception/ ceremony venues. Too much could change.

I never look at wedding websites until I need to find hotel information.

  • I did "Details to Come" on many of the tabs. Fill them in as you can.

  • I had my venue locked and loaded long before Save the Dates went out, but then I waited to send them until I had the hotel room block confirmed and listed on the website so that people could book then if they wanted to. The wedding is 6 months away, and a few people have booked their rooms already via the info on the website.

I included whatever information I did have (like venue and time, since that helps set the formality even though my StD's were super casual, in case anyone is like me and plans their wardrobe freakishly far in advance). Then for things I didn't know, I noted that they could come back at a later date for more information. (entree choices, shuttle details, etc.)

  • Don't send the STDs until you've booked both ceremony and reception venue. Your date isn't set until you have contracts for those things. I would also go ahead and get the hotel blocked before sending STDs. Most people won't make travel arrangements when the STD comes, but some might. The whole point of sending the STD is so that people can have advance notice to plan. Wait until you have all the information before you start distributing it to your guests.
  • Thanks!  That's bascially all the information that I have complete as of now too - welcome, about us, pictures, faq, registries.

Working on Ceremony & Hotel details -- the most important (aside from reception, of course).  And I am 100% sure the reception that I have planned now (location / time / etc) will stay the same regardless of the ceremony

I think I'm going to hold off another week just to have a little more time to hone down some of the important details... We will definitely get the hotel accommodations down within this time frame.  And *fingers crossed* will be able to have a ceremony site as well.

Thanks for your ideas and suggestions everyone!
