  • haha. I love pinterest but there are definitely some bad ideas on there. I should start a board just for them.

There was one going around for a while that was driving me nuts. It had a picture of really badly photoshopped hair and said to put brown sugar and water in a spray bottle to get really smooth straight hair. No, that is how you get sticky hair.

    Found it!

Like really? No one can tell that a) that's some godawful photo editing and b) that is not going to do what it says it will do?

  • I just recently saw some WTF pins/boards.  One board that I saw was a high school girl who had a combined Prom and Future Wedding board (because those are so similar....).  But this [CLICKY] takes the cake for me. Found in the DIY section. Why would you wear those???????

  • And these types of pins are what occur when you have users with bad taste who come up with ideas!
  • That's awesome, lol.

Have you guys seen the Pinstrosity blog, where they actually try out some of these ridiculous pins to see if they work? It's a nightmare. I feel very, very sad for some of these people who destroy their kitchens, bathrooms, children's hair, etc.

In case you're walking through a swamp, of course.

I still would prefer my hiking boots, especially since they will last more than 5 minutes in a swamp!

  • I actually know the stick straight haired lady, at least via internet. I loved snarking the early posts as I have curly hair - at the curly length, mine couldn't pull to straight length and my curls hide way more length. Plus, for that 1A stick straight hair - if you're at all curly, you need at least heat for that straight.

I will say in humidity, I do put honey in my hair. In tiny amounts to dripping wet hair, it kills my frizz and it's not sticky. Spraying sugar water all over would be a different debate.
  • Had to dig this up for this:

I like pillows I can put my face on. Burlap is scratchy. ENOUGH WITH THE BURLAP.

  • That slippers thing is actually an internet joke. It was originally on some craft blog as a joke thing at least 8 years ago, so I guess someone brought it over to Pinterest. Except I'm sure most of those people don't realize it's not meant to be taken seriously.
  • I keep seeing a billion posts (I am decorating a new apartment so I've been looking for ideas) regarding concrete floors- Oh hell fuck nonononononono.

Lemme tell you guys a bit about concrete floors- they fuck up your knees and back.  When I went to art school, all the floors were concrete, and I literally had to buy special, expensive running sneakers so that there was enough support/cushioning between me and the floors- before I had those shoes, I literally could not handle standing for the entire 6 hour classes because my knees would start to hurt like hell and my back always felt like crap at the end of the day.  We were actually encouraged to buy mats and invest in good shoes by all of our teachers because concrete can be so harsh on your joints and back.

So when I see those pins about concrete flooring, and imagine walking on that all day or standing on it for any extended period of time (Fuck cooking real food that would be too much standing. In that house the microwave would be my BFF) all I can think of is a lot of knee and back pain.

Yea, my feet get sore after two or three hours in the kitchen. And we have linoleum!

ETA: Oh, and I was browsing Pinterest and found a picture of dingy teeth and then white teeth, before and after.  The description was was a longer version of I'm a dentist and you need to swish with hydrogen peroxide to get white teeth.  Fortunately, someone commented on that, NO DON'T.  I can't believe anyone would recommend swishing with peroxide every day.  Once in a while yes, but it is not good for you to do it every day.
  • Yeah I wear some squishy flip flops or slippers if I'm going to be cooking for a while! I like the look of concrete but then I'd have to put mats everywhere and it would be ugly so it would kind of defeat the purpose. I cook way too much for that, and I'm not even one of those crazy people that loves cooking and is always making something crazy fancy.

You can buy a squishy cushion floor mat if you are going to standing cooking a while.   My aunt bought one from BBB because she has a horrible lower back from teaching for years

This was the winner I found on Pinterest recently (and posted to another WR Pinterest thread, so I'm glad this thread started instead).  Really fucked up.  Really, really fucked up.

@AuroraRose41 that made me laugh out loud... I love how the internet takes everything soooo seriously...

  • @CaliMel11 being the curious person I am, I decided to search on pinterest to see if they were a real thing or a joke. I found pins of decorated ones for sale on Etsy for $4 each pair. "Maxi Pad Slippers with your favorite football team's logo!". /facepalm.

    @Marzipan13 I know right?!

This is kinda a personal preference/ pet peeve of mine, but I HATE when a cake is so friggin fancy it doesn't look like a cake anymore- I see cakes that look like folded fabric, cakes that look like gift boxes, or layer cakes where the fondant is just so smooth and it's so overdone it just doesn't look edible anymore.

When I see a cake, I wanna go "Yum, I wanna eat that!"  I wanna see the frosting, I want it to look like a friggin cake, because cakes like this, and others I see on there, just don't look appetizing at all to me, because they don't even look like food!  I want my food to look like food, dammit!

  • It said cake on pinterest with a link to some bakery, I didn't fully check it out. If this is cake, I could not want to eat that. I wouldn't even know how to start eating that! I would just take the teapot at the top and nibble on it until I found actual cake.

  • Is there even any cake in there? Hell, I could be a gold medallist if tea drinking was ever to become an Olympic sport but I'm totally put off by that monstrous concoction.

Also, am I the only person who finds an awful lot of this newborn photography lark totally creepy?

I'm the same about cakes. Like yes it's great that they made a cake that shoots out flames, or looks like a teapot set/alice in wonderland thing.
But it really doesn't look edible. It's just craptons of fondant and frosting which tastes gross.
I just like normal plain cakes that are stacked up and look like a cake.
