FI just got an invite for an engagement party over text message

My FI just received a text message invitation for one of his good freind's engagement party. Not only is it over text message, but it was a picture taken of the invite which was sent to us, and it is a week from Saturday, in a town about an hour and a half from where we (and the couple) live. At least it didn't have the registry info on the invite... or text.

I really don't want to go, because this reeks of etiquette faux pas, but the party is for a very dear friend of FI. Ugh.

Re: FI just got an invite for an engagement party over text message

  • Scribe5, we didn't get an incite. We got a picture taken of an invite through text messages. I feel like it was tacky, and I felt like venting anout it because I'm having a sleepless night (unrelated to the invite).
  • A texted picture of the actual invite? Yup, that's tacky. But if it's for a good friend, I would go.
  • I agree with ClimbingBrideNY, it may be tacky but if its a good friend I would overlook the faux pas.

  • Did they explain why you didn't get it? Mistake on their list? It bounced back in the mail? Otherwise, very odd (and possibly very rude depending on the explanation), but whether or not I went would depend on my closeness with the couple.
  • FI didn't seemed phased by it. They never asked for our address (we live with my parents), abd never offered an . Explanation. FI doesnt want to ask. *shrug* I guess this is more of a rant than anything.

P.S. Not being able to quote on mobile is annoying TT_TT
  • Also, who sent the invite?  If it was sent by the B&G then there are a number of problems with this.

It was sent by the groom, and the bride commented on one of my Facebook pictures to make sure we are going.

What a weird way to communicate. If she didn't have your number, why not send you a private message? Comment it on a picture? Weird weird weird.

And she does have my number! Ugh. They both have my number. -_-

Ok, that's what it sounded like.  I'd be annoyed and likely would not attend.  Not a fan of self-congratulatory parties.

Sounds like a B list. But for an engagement party? Really?
  • If it were just a text message invitation, I would say NBD, but a picture of an invitation you never received? Nope. Not going to that.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
