Snarky Brides

Yay!

I got to hear my favorite Christmas song ("I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas) on the drive to work today and the traffic was non-existent!  Fave Christmas songs?  Good thing for today?  In case I don't get a chance later; Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to any and all SBs.

Re: Yay!

  • I bought my 9yr old a hippo from IKEA because that is her favorite song. That, and Purple Snowflakes. My kid is weird.

    I love all Christmas songs.*

*All, meaning anything that's not country and not that stupid fucking Christmas Shoes bullshiit.
  • If we're talking about popular Christmas songs I'd go with Feliz Navidad. It always puts me in a good mood.

My more traditional favorite is God Rest Ye Mary Gentlemen with O Holy Night at a close second.

    Merry Christmas!

  • I love that song but I want to know who did it and I DONT believe its really shirley temple because I only just ever heard it like 3 years ago. My fave song is the christmas song sung by nat king cole. BEST EVER.
  • I love Feliz Navidad too. It seems to be one of those songs that most other people find annoying though!

Other than that I just like the traditional songs for the most part. I love a good O Holy Night. Carrie Underwood sang it really well on her Christmas special a few years back. And I really like Josh Groban's Christmas CD too!

  • Didn't we already have this thread?

I hate the hippo song. It instantly pisses me off, kind of like any song by the Beastie Boys. Or, like The Christmas Shoes for Bec.
  • I've never heard the Christmas Shoes song but everyone seems to hate it so I'm ok being ignorant of its awfulness. I have to say the Christmas song that makes me twitchy is Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. I don't understand how someone who brought us so many great Beatles songs could come up with that abomination.

  • Nebb- It's not Shirley Temple, it's Gayla Peevey.  It's available on the "Dr. Demento Presents The Greatest Christmas Novelty CD of All Time".  It also has "The Chipmunk Song", "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth", "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer", "Twelve Days of Christmas by Bob & Doug McKenzie", "I Saw Daddy Kissing Santa Claus", "Santa Claus and His Old Lady" and others. I Love this CD.  But I also like my James Taylor Christmas CD and my mom's Mahalia Jackson CD.  But, you're right, Nat King Cole OWNS Christmas.

  • Sorry Sesh.  Didn't realize we covered this.
  • Is the Christmas Shoes song the thoroughly depressing one with the little boy who wants shoes for his dying mother?

Yep, that's it. One I find depressing is the one by Natalie Cole about the little boy that Santa Clause forgot. God that one makes me sad.

I love that song! In my head I play this little animated Shag-style Beatles video with them bouncing around on the moon and stars and drinking and dancing and perhaps even flying off in a sleigh at the end.

While it's as old as Shirley Temple, some kid named Gayla Peevey sang it. Yes I had to Wiki it.

Really, you hadn't heard of it until 3 years ago? I remember hearing it back in the 90s.

My favorite is "Happy Christmas (The War is Over)" - John Lennon's original  version. I think it's a nostalgic thing more than anything, I just remember it from when I was little.

    Ugh, not a fan.

I also don't like that Christmas Carole one, about the little orphan Carole who gets adopted on Christmas.

  • I do like Snoopy's Christmas song.  Because I'm 12.

  • The only Christmas song I like is Carol of the Bells.  Bonus points if it's the Transiberian Orchestra version.

Have you heard the South Park version?  It will either make you giggle or you'll hate it.  I don't think there's a middle on that one.
  • Nope.  I'd probably hate it, I hate South Park.

THAT's what it's called! I couldn't remember for the life of me. I love that one too, and it's the only one.
  • I really like Dido's Christmas Day. I has to be my fav Christmas song.

On the depressing note is the song Christmas Carol, I don't know who sings it but Iv'e been hearing it this year. It's about a girl born on Christmas, her mom died and she doesn't know who her dad is.

  • I know I said this in the last thread, but I heard it last night on my way home so I have to ask:  does anyone know the song "Same Old Lang Syne" and does ANYONE like it?  It's so terrible.
  • Chirp- You don't like Dan Fogelburp?  It's pretty cheesy, I'll admit.  But, I also sing along when it's on.  Sigh.  For someone who doesn't like cheese, I like some cheesy music!
  • YIO- I heard that for the first time last week.  It's a country song, right?
  • Oh, it's terrible.  Especially the beginning "met my old lover in the grocery store..." and the end "and the snow turned into rain".  I can not stand that song.  Plus it condones having open bottles of alcohol in your vehicle.  Not cool.

That's my older daughter's favorite Xmas song! LOL
  • Ya, A country song. Kind of creepy because the guy adopts the girl after meeting her while paying Santa I think

That is also called Christmas Eve/Sarajavo, no? I love that song. I would love to see them live. I also love Toby Keith's version of Little Drummer Boy.

The Christmas Song is really irritating to me, for some reason.

  • My mom loves it and will play it on repeat.  It's just too much for me.
  • Anything on a constant loop gets old!  At B&N we had about 3 cds we could rotate.  By December 2nd, you hated EVERY song on all 3 cds.

Um, I have a new favorite though.  Percy the Puny Poinsettia is adorable and not obnoxious.

  • Dominic the Donkey bothers me too
