Sorry- it's refusing to keep my paragraphs. I just wanted to chime in. After the last 2 days with Sara's post and today's post, it has sufficiently creeped me out 1. how many people attempt to find your info online 2. how much personal info is available on a google search. There are many, many websites that list "public records" with your town, previous towns, address, age, relatives. I manually just spent the last two hours going to each one of these websites and "opting out". Some required me to create a free account before they would hide the info but that's fine. Here are a list of all the websites I found with public info on myself that I blocked in case you wish to do the same- ussearch.com intelius.com acxiom.com whitepages.com instantcheckmate.com peoplefinders.com peoplesmart.com mylife.com beenverified.com Scroll to the bottom and of their sites and either click on privacy policy, help, contact us and the opt out instructions are hidden in there.
Don't forget places like Spokeo and all those reunion sites.

That thread was shocking...and so were the people who left nasty messages, however well deserved, on her guestbook.

I'm glad the thread at least is gone.  Things won't be as exciting, perhaps, but hopefully they won't get so nasty.
I hope you're not believing that she deserved the nasty messages.
No.  She did open herself to criticism by her messages to Sara and her posts on Facebook, along with her FI's and her father's.  But no, there's a line between criticism and the nastiness she was subjected to, and people crossed that line that should have stayed uncrossed.  I hope that line won't get crossed again.
The guestbook person and the "you didn't get invited letter" person are two different threads and stories.
But they're both deleted?  Why was Sara's thread deleted?  I'm coming along after the crazy and trying to figure out what the hell happened.

    SITB:

Sara opted to have her posted deleted to ensure there were no lingering quotes or anything with The BSC bride's info.

  • I googled my username and you either get Lady Gaga dressed up as Larry King, or you get my steam account.

If ya'll wanna add me on steam, PM me! lol

Thanks for this info, but some of those sites' policies for having your info blocked is just bullshit.

  • I googled my username and real name and am happy to report that I am not all that interesting.  The only things that pop up are my pinterest boards, TK, and a 5K race I have helped put together the past two years.

  • @jenna8984 It looks like I'm going to have fun doing that tomorrow...
  • Thanks @Schatzi13 there were a few I missed!

  • For once I am happy that I have a very common first and last name. None of the hits with my name are me!
  • I just googled my username and all that pops up are a bunch of Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, etc. accounts that aren't mine.

Since I only use this username on TK and Ravelry, I wasn't super-worried about it.

  • I for one would not want a password protected wedding website. I would not use TK's website option is it were required. I was careful in selecting what I posted on it and would not be upset if a random person saw it. I would prefer to have the choice myself rather than make the process more cumbersome for older relatives wanting to access my site JMHO :)
    ~xoxo~

  • Googled my username and it had 11 pages of TK posts that's it.

I password protected my site, and I just sent a card to everyone with the STD and invitations with the website and password. I have gotten some emails or texts with people asking the password, but it's not a big deal.

We also password protected our website.  H really wanted to be sure it was more protected.  We had very few older, non-tech savvy guests and we included the password in the STDs; which we sent to everyone because 95% of our guests were OOT and the time of year and location of our wedding.

  • I PW protected the sections with our event details and room block information, but had left the guestbook open. Not anymore.

  • I use a different username on every site I sign into. It a PIA if I forget one, but it allows me just a little more privacy. So if you google "Blueeyes90" none of those are mine.  Though I might have used it on WB, but I posted the same stuff here and there, so no huge loss.

  • My maiden name is the same as a porn star. I've been asked about it before.
  • I have been MIA today (damn work) but I did see the original post before it blew up. Yikes!

That being said, I Googled my username and saw that I was quoted in The Nest Magazine awhile back. Okay, no problem. However, the quote they used is not something I think I'd say or remember saying. If I did, I was smoking crack.

  • Holy moly.  I missed all of this while at school.  This is really shameful and whoever posted on her guestbook should be banned.

Did anyone actually call/text the phone numbers that were posted?  This poor girl!

  • I am glad my last name is a word which gums up search results pretty nicely. My married name will be very easy to search though- even now out of curiosity I did a search and the first thing that pops up is our registries and site. FiancB just brings up my tumblr, the only other thing I use this handle for.

I texted her just to make sure she knew what was going on. No one else contacted her.

For those who care, she seems like a very nice girl who is very caring and Thank Goodness very thick skinned.

@mimiphin I can't from my phone, but imagine I'm sending you the Barney Stinson "highest of fives!" gif. That's good that you did that. I'm glad she was ok.

  • Man, I hope my name wasn't used. I said my piece about being rude and to stop acting like a spoiled brat (because she was), and then packed up and went to work.  This shit about hatebombing her guestbook and texting her was totally unacceptable.  I do hope she learns something about not posting your phone number on an unprotected website (even if you do own it), because that's just dumb, but the stuff that happened never should have.  And I hope she reconsidered the money grab while she's at it.

mimiphin- that was very nice of you. I said this before that she exercised EXTREMELY bad judgement posting all that online in the first place but in no way deserved what happened in that thread.

I did the same and they used my name. It's all been taken down now though. Whoever did it was lurking THIS board to swipe usernames because they paraphrased me (when someone mentioned it was happening I said "what the fuck" and within a minute there was a GB post saying "what the fuck indeed." Sick).
