I decided it was time for an intro. I'm getting ready for my SO's deployment and need activities and an outlet! I just filled out the generic form about "getting to know you", but I know you ladies will ask questions and comment as you see fit.

I also wanted to point out that my favorite thread of ALL time is the one about the girl who posted the "Invited" and "Not Invited" lists on Facebook.

Oh, oh...and you ladies have some AWESOME GIFs. I think this and the above inspired me to come out of the woodworks, so I can partake.

  • Welcome!

    1) I request pics of your furbabies.
    2) You win for my favorite how-did-you-meet-your-SO story. Too funny!
    3) Yay for another nursing student! I finish school in August. :) So I have to ask The Question: What specialty are you thinking about right now?

Hi! Your answer to how you like your potatoes is the best (and should be the only) answer! You seem normal, which given all the crazy that has been happening over on the Etiquette board is a relief!

What do you think of the trailer they released for The Giver? I've never read the book (don't know how that happened!) but now I feel like I need to because I can't see a movie based on a book if I haven't read the book!

  • @CLoGreenEyes - I am posting from work, because it's almost closing time and completely DEAD! I will figure out how to post one when I get home. I, too, love how we met. I didn't ever think I'd have a cool story, but it makes people laugh! Hell, it makes me laugh, still. As far as the nursing goes, I haven't really settled. My broad goal is to become an NP. I know starting out I can't be too picky, but I was thinking neonatal, peds, or oncology.

@bethsmiles - Thank you! My mouth dropped when I read that there's a movie coming out for The Giver! I had NO idea! I'll have to look. The book is amazing. It was one we read in high school. Also, now I'm kind of scared that they'll ruin the book. You HAVE to read the book.

  • OH MY GOD I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD BEAGLE TOO!  And I love Alf.
    Hai :)
  • Welcome!  Are you still friends with the girl you went on the double date with?

I LOVE The Giver... I don't hate the trailer and I will definitely be seeing it.

Also, I'm with you I absolutely LOVE drooling over rings.. even if they are rings I want I can still appreciate :)

  • @Sakalicious - That's awesome! What's yours' name?

@Pepperally - Thank you! Sort of. She wasn't interested in him. We've been friends since elementary school and are just growing apart. She's stayed the same since high school in that she's drama-filled, using drugs (nevermind her 3 y.o. daughter...), and just a lot of stuff that I want nothing to do with. I'm SO ready for my career, to marry my SO, and just have a relaxing life, lol.

  • @BreMR - You read the book? If so, that makes me feel a little better about the movie. Gah, I need to leave so I can YouTube! Stupid work computers..
  • Her name is Minnie.  She's mixed with blue tick coonhound.
I also worked as a pharmacy tech for awhile before grad school and love Scrubs.  Twinsies!  Do you enjoy it?  I feel like the time always went by so quickly.

@houndpuppy1 I have read the book many times, some when I was a kid, some when I was an adult..

I do have some bad news for you... I hear Taylor Swift is in the movie :-/
    image
  • @Sakalicious - That's awesome! I love hounds. I kind of want a blue tick. We will have more dogs when he is out of the navy. I think we both want a herd of hounds, haha. Yay twins! What do you do for work? I love my job. The people...I could choke sometimes!

@BreMR - ......PLEASE don't tell me that. I thought I was the only one that despised her and her whiney little rat face. Too mean? There's my snark, lol. Seriously though...if she's just one of the girls in school and not, like, his sister or mom, I'll live.

  • Pardon me for being grumbly about work. I'm graduating with my PhD in molecular biology and genetics next month. I'm looking for jobs as a scientific writer but for now I just blog and try to sell it as freelance stuff. My focus through grad school has been pediatric neuro diseases.
  • @Sakalicious - Wow. That's pretty heavy. I love your grad school focus. It sounds very interesting! You sound like one smart lady!

@houndpuppy1 I already can't get this monstrosity out of my brain
    image

I'm definitely not a Taylor Swift fan......I'm not really sure who she plays in the movie... perhaps I should check into that..

  • There are many science nerds around these parts <3 It has been really interesting because I did my dissertation at a children's hospital so I've gotten to meet a lot of the patients while trying to find effective drug treatments.  I noticed you mentioned an interest in peds/neonates.  I've always been really fascinated with neonatology, particularly since a lot of diseases that we study involve traumatic birth experiences/hypoxia.  I bet that would be a really interesting nursing specialty!

Sorry :-D I never like to suffer alone.. I'm selfish like that.

  • @houndpuppy1 - It seems like The Giver was required reading at very school but mine! It's one of the few books BF has read that I haven't. It was a little surreal to watch the trailer for it and hear BF pointing out mistakes, usually I do that!

  • Welcome! If you had to live on one foodstuff for the rest of your life, what would you pick?
  • Welcome! For the Horde, or the Alliance?

Also, y'all, you broke my heart about the Giver movie :( I just watched the trailer and I can already feel my pre-imagined scenes from the book shattering into tiny pieces. You know, that mind-movie you create while reading?

  • Hi!
I love that your dog's name is Alf. It's too cute.  Please tell me you have a favorite F.R.I.E.N.D.S. character? :)

  • Welcome! (I don't know why this is underlined)

I hate being called sweetie at restaurants or anywhere at that! Unless it's my husband or my mom calling me sweetie then I don't mind.

  • Hi! Welcome. Do you like wine? If so, what's your favorite? And if not, what's wrong with you?

  • @BreMR - OH MY GOD. HAHAHA.

@Sakalicious - I agree. I really wish I had the mentality to do research and stuff, but I took Gen Chem twice and made a D twice, d'oh! It's just one of those things that I CANNOT do, no matter how hard I try.

@Imcooper86 - What is the significance of "cooper" in your username? I have a lab/hound mix named Cooper, who my mom babysat over Christmas and didn't want to give back, lol. So he's hers now.

@bethsmiles - I'm the same way. I stopped watching TrueBlood after Season 2 because I was just so disgusted with it after reading the books.

@KeptInStitches - Can I pick two? Pizza and ice cream are my absolute favorites in the world! What about you?

@Moiramab - For The Horde! You? I started out ally before BC, but I have turned! You are making me scared about the movie! I really need to watch the trailer. Ugh.

@TwoDimes - Germany! It's my most favorite part of my heritage. My SO has the German seal tattooed on his arm, so it was definitely love at first sight, haha! What about you?

@severmilli12 - Alf is my SO's but I have taken over the role of momma. He sealed the deal for me. He's kind of an ass and thinks he's the boss. The first time I went to his house, Alf immediately came and sat on me and gave kisses, which he only does when he's feeling VERY generous. And I am a HUGE fan of Jennifer Anniston. I love everything she's ever been in. You?

@southernpeach89 - I'm glad I'm not the only one! It just strikes me as rude, when they are really trying to be endearing and friendly, lol. I find I get more annoyed when people closer to my age do it.

@Ollie08 - I LOVE merlot, and sangria if it counts. I haven't liked anything else I've tried. Not a huge fan of whites. Unless it's a white sangria, lol. I'm more of a fan of vodka mixed with basically anything! But merlot and sangria would be my first choice.

I hope I got everyone!! Sorry I disappeared! I passed out when I came home last night. Pictures of the babies to follow (if I can figure it out..).

  • Hopefully I'm doing this right. Should be Alf, Boone the Wonder Dog, Boone the morning after our night of drinking (excuse the mess), Alf the Yoda, and then sleepy brothers.

  • @houndpuppy1 ahhh I love the pictures!  Hi from cousin Minnie:
    ...not sure why she's sideways
  • @Sakalicious - OMG she's ADORABLE! Maybe they really are cousins...they have such a similar face! Also, I dig her spots. *thumbs up*
  • And sorry for the picture of Boone's peep. It's too cute a picture to leave out, lol.
  • @houndpuppy1 - I don't like white wine either. And I don't think I've ever had white sangria. I like Merlot, and Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and the more fruity reds. I'm not a fan of anything with a woody taste. Well, not my wines anyway ;-)

  • @Ollie08 - Sounds like we would get along! Though I tried Pinot Noir and absolutely did not like it at all. The initial taste was great...after taste was the worst thing ever. I've had a white sangria once. I must prefer red, but it was good.
