Boredom Survey: Where you're from/where you live

Re: Boredom Survey: Where you're from/where you live

  • 1. I absolutely love living in Atlanta. Sometimes when I’m driving into the city at night, I look up at the skyline and just feel amazed that I’ve made it this far from my hometown. Life here is pretty sweet. I have my bachelorette pad in a hip little intown neighborhood, a decent job downtown, a church family that I absolutely love, and a handful of close friends. Plus, FI and FILs are here. I love all the unique neighborhoods and delicious restaurants here. There’s also a super cool urban trail that I love walking in the spring.

    2.  I want to stay here for the foreseeable future, but occasionally I think about the possibility of moving to St. Louis to be near my family once FI and I are married and ready to start a family. Mostly I just love looking at houses in the Central West End on Zillow.

    3. Nope. I grew up in a small city in Missouri and GTFO’d shortly after high school graduation.

  • Oh yea... I grew up in Bergen county,NJ. Moved to Florida after 7th grade. I loved NJ and wasn't keen on FL. Went away for school and a job. Now we are on the east coast of FL and I think I like it here. My jersey roots run deep though :)
If you ever come for a visit, can we have a g2g?!

  • 1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)? Why/why not? I do actually like where I live. I live about 30 minutes outside of Denver, CO. It's beautiful here, we have awesome weather...I love it!

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now? The only thing I would change is that I'm ready for H and I to move into a house. We currently live in a condo. At 1250 sf it's actually plenty big for us, but I'd like to have a yard and neighbors. Sometimes I feel like I live in a retirement community...but we do have awesome views of the mountains!

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up? I'm not sure. My dad was Navy, so we actually lived all over the place. I spent Middle School and HS in one house in southern Maryland though, so I guess I consider that my "home town"? My mom still lives in that area, and I do find myself really enjoying when we get to travel back. Large hard wood trees (not evergreens), beautiful barns, rolling hills, fall colors, farm lands...there are things I miss. Don't know if I could really live there long term though.

  • @Swazzle only if it includes bagels and pizza?  Which, it SHOULD if it's a NJ G2G, right?  Right.  We're technically going up to Baltimore next week (Tues-Wed) but won't make it all the way up to Jersey.  However, part of the deal with moving to Florida was that we were going to make REGULAR visits to our familia each year - because really, living in VA was awesome because we saw our family more, but other than that it was lame.  So we're just combining the awesomeness with no snow now.

Since the wedding is this weekend (!!) I envision our next trip up north to be either this summer, this Christmas, or next spring break.  I will keep you posted.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

    YAY!

    And OMG THREE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)? Why/why not? For the most part yes. I live in Toronto right now, and I think it's a fantastic city. There's always stuff going on and I'm really looking forward to the summer. I live right downtown so I've got whatever amenities I could need, there's a park close by and I'm only about 15 minutes from the lake and Toronto Island which is beautiful in the summer. That being said, downtown Toronto is great for now; I don't think I want to live downtown forever, but it's a good fit for the time being.

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now? I plan on staying in the Toronto area. BF and I are talking about buying a house just north of the city since real estate in Toronto is ludicrous. Money will go a lot further if we head just a bit out of the city. I'd rather have a house just outside the city than a tiny condo downtown.

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up? Close. My family lives in the suburbs about half an hour from where I am now. My parents bought their house before I was born and we never moved. That's part of the reason that I'd like to stay in the Toronto area, I really want to stay reasonably close to my family.

  • 1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)?  Why/why not?

Meh. I live in New York, in the Capital District. I moved here for a year-long internship, and now I've lived here for almost 10 years (UGH). It's one of those places where there's nothing TERRIBLE about it, so it's not imperative to move, but there's nothing GREAT about it either. It just kind of sucks you in & keeps you here.

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now?

BF & I both want to move back to New England, preferably the Greater Boston area. I just recently applied for a job in Lowell, which would put us in a good location. It's much harder for me to find a job than him, just because of our industries, so when I found something I could apply for, I jumped at it, and he can more than likely find something fairly easily.

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up?

NOPE. I grew up in a tiny town in Maine. I love it there, and I'm glad that all my family is still there, but I could NEVER live there. I would live in Portland, but that's about as far North as I'd go.

  • 1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)?  Why/why not?
Mmm I'm not a big Delaware person.  It's not awful, but DH and I definitely want to go somewhere else after finishing school.

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now?
I have no idea.  There are a number of places I'd like to live (northern CA, Chicago, and Boston).  We need to be near some sort of body of water for DH's research.  @houndpuppy1, DH's research involves the Chesapeake Bay and he often takes trips to VA for sampling!

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up?
I grew up near Herhsey, PA.  I'm a little over 2 hours away now.

    1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)? Why/why not? Mostly. I'm in the suburbs and I hate having to get in the car to go anywhere. I kind of miss living in the city and being able to walk or hop on the train to go to an event. However, I don't miss the crime or the traffic and I really really really love our yard and having our own space.

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now? I think FI and I would love to end up living in southern/mid California as long as our incomes supported it. As much as we both love Georgia, California just fits who we are much more. Plus there's so much there to see and do! You have the mountains, the beach, the desert, wine country. To us it feels like home even though I've never actually lived there (FI was born and grew up in southern Cali).

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up? Not really but sort of. Until I was 13 we were moving every 1 or 2 years because my dad was in the military. Aside from the 5 years I spent living out of state during and after college, I've been in the Atlanta metro area for almost 10 years now. I think of Atlanta as my home...we've been here longer than anywhere else.

  • @sakalicious- my SIL is from Palmyra.
  • @houndpuppy1 I lived on the peninsula until we moved to Florida and the crime (and school systems) was something that made our decision to move so much easier. We currently live in the "not great" part of our county and I swear there's less crime than the "great" parts of HR. Oh and the jellyfish! They killed us while windsurfing lol

YES! The crime is terrible. WAVY is on my Facebook everyday with someone's arrested for killing someone, someone beat their child to death, etc. If I could take the bad out, I'd love it here. I really love being able to walk across the street to the beach. I am NOT a fan of jellyfish!!!! I want to windsurf though. Never done that.
  • @TwoDimes - We got Remi as a puppy (6 weeks I think?) and we've been in the condo the entire time. Thankfully Aussies are super smart and he picked up potty training fast, even though we're on the 3rd floor! We crated/kenneled him while we were at work and at night. Once he was out of the chewing stage we decided to let him have run of the house. He has been great! We were concerned because Aussies are a high energy breed, but he's actually done great in a condo. We take him on walks almost every night and we have a HUGE off leash dog park close by that we try to visit 1-2x a week so he can run and swim and completely exhaust himself.

Do you have any other pets? I'm guessing they pretty much sleep all day, but we do also have a cat. I don't know if it makes a difference that they both have a buddy...but I like to think they enjoy the company.

I also think it helps that he's always been a condo pup. If he'd started on a farm or with a yard and then moved into our place I can imagine that would be hard.

  • @houndpuppy1 we took an intro class through WET (sailwet.com) - they usually have 2 intros per year (june/july) and then weekly practice sessions with like $20 board rentals.  It's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.  If you do decide to go all out with it, though, the boards can run you upwards of $1k+ (actually, they basically start at $1k, hence why we don't have one)

  • 1. We currently live in Madison, Wi. It's ok. We're here for me to go to law school, and I don't see us living in Wi much longer than that. Although, BF actually quite likes it, so I guess we'll see! It's great that it's a outdoorsy city, everyone is active, we don't need a car to get around (we refuse to live somewhere where we need a car to get places), and in general it's ok.

    2. If we could live anywhere, it would be Ireland. My family is from there and I love it. It's beautiful and I would move in a heartbeat if we could.

    3. I'm from Chicago and we will probably end up moving back there. BF is from the greater Philly area and does not want to go back there (he lived in Chicago for almost 10 years before we met, so it's pretty much home for him too). I miss Chicago so much! It's a great city.
  • 1) Do you like where you currently live (city/town/region)?  Why/why not?

Do I like it?  Yes.  Do I want to stay here indefinitely?  No.  Chicago is beautiful.  Has some great restaurants and shopping.  The COL is lower than most other big cities I've lived in.  I'm an East Coaster though…born and bred.  My mentality on everything is pretty East Coast.  The East Coast feels more like "home" to me.

    2) Where would you like to live if you don't really like where you're at now?

DH and I are discussing our move back, which will likely be in 18 months - 2.5 years.  We'd like to move probably to the NY/MA area.  I think we'd be ok with either.  Though the COL in MA is much cheaper.

    3) Do you live where you are originally from/grew up?

Nope.  I was born and raised in NY.  Lived in CT for a bit during adolescence.  Went to college/law school in MA.  Lived there until about 8/9 months ago.  Now I live in Chicago.

Thanks for the information! I'll have to check it out. Yeah I doubt I would get seriously into it, lol. It would be nice to rent and do it a couple times though.
