Groom here. I need help to calm LaMaFa down

Hi Everyone,

I feel bad everytime I take over LaMaFa's account but the wedding is about 50 days away and she's freaking out at random times. She has a new job shes getting settled into, drama with her folks, plus all the details with the wedding. Here's where you all can help.

We have down ALOT for the wedding weeks and months ago. Here's a quick list

-Rings
-Dj
-Venue
-Dress
-Table Numbers
-Favors
-Shower
-Tuxedos
-Bridesmaid dresses
-Dance lessons (in progress)
-Invites (sent and coming back)
-Cake (paid and picked)
-Limo (need to verify)
-Idea for escort card (printing them individually wish me luck)
-Honeymoon planned & booked
-Car getting fixed for honeymoon trip
-Wedding shoes blinded
-Dress taken for alterations
-Reverend kinda taken care of
-Bubbles for ceremony
-Photographer
-Gift card box
-Rehearsal dinner booked & paid

There might be more but I honestly can't think of more. The Problem is LaMaFa randomly freaks out because she sees everyone's DYI projects or list of checks and she thinks we need to be doing more. After seeing that list do you ladies think we've missed anything? Are we in good shape for November 10th? What else should we be doing?

If we're good then I will just continue to talk her down and doing things for the wedding while she's at work.

Thanks ahead of time for any help. Her freaking out kinda is starting to make me freak.

Sincerely
Chris

  • She shouldn't freak out. I am three week away from getting married and I think you have more things checked off you list than I do. It will be okay. :)

The only two things that I can think of that may or may may be on you list is gifts for the wedding party and hair/makeup for LaMaFa. You guys might not be doing those things though.
    Anniversary imagemy read shelf:
Cathy (CathyL7910)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Sounds good -

Does she have someone set to do her hair/makeup on the day of?
    Flowers taken care of?
    Bridesmaids and Groomsmen gifts?
And don't forget to get your marriage license next month!

Those are the only things I can see that you may need.

  • I forgot those

    -Hair Booked
    -Make-up booked
    -Groomsmen gift bought and given
-Bridesmaid gift in progress (she's making them jewelry)
-Flowers are check but drama behind that (Uncle's doing them but lives in Pittsburgh so week of is going to be....."fun".)
-License on the calendar for October 25 or 26 which ever day she has off.
  • Chris, don't feel bad about taking over her account....I think it's super sweet and thoughtful for you to ask us to see how we can help and ease Laura's nerves. You guys are almost there and in very good shape from the list you provided. In all honesty, you guys are in better shape than my FI and I and we're getting married on Nov 9th!

So here's what is left (fron what I can think of):
    - Obtain marriage license
    - Guest book or an alternative for guests to sign
    - Selection of music for ceremony and reception (i.e., wedding party entrance, bride and groom entrance, cake cutting, bouquet toss, garter toss, first dance and etc). You should talk to your DJ for the reception music.
    - Make wedding timeline
    - If you are having a florist then make final selections on centerpieces
    - Once all your rsvps come in then decide which guests will sit in whichever table you designate for them.
    - Finalize wedding reception menu if you haven't already
    - Sit down with your photographer to go over details and certain pictures you want to take. Photographers are great in helping you make a timeline for your wedding.

    Keep us posted!!! :)

You guys have A LOT done!! She shouldn't be panicking at all, but she just wants things to be perfect that day. It's such a special day that you'll only have once.

    Sounds good.

We have a wedding book. We kinda have done some stuff with the music, let me log on to the dj portal to check. Yep looks like we have most of the ceremony figured out. We have the songs picked for up to the father daughter dance, after that we kinda parted ways on the idea front. For example I want this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=astISOttCQ0&noredirect=1 for either the cake cutting or the garter so I can literally shake my butt.
We have some ideas for the reception food tender loin, something teriyaki (chicken I think we're leaning towards), and we're split between fish or pork. Depending on what we pick will decide on our sides.
What's a wedding timeline? I'll start working on it ASAP (right after I'm told what it is lol)

I failed to ask you but do you have a day of the wedding coordinator or DOC? If you do then this person will help you make a timeline for the day of the wedding. This is an exampleof how it would look...

10:30 AM: Makeup artist, bridesmaids arrive in bridal suite

11:45 AM: Bride’s makeup

12:00 PM: Lunch delivered

12:30 PM: Hairstylist arrives (only for bride’s hair)

1:00 PM: Photographers arrive

Detail shots, primping photographs

1:30 PM: Second shooter to groom

2:00 PM: Bride puts on the dress

2:10 PM: Groom leaves for first-look location

2:20 PM: Bride leaves for first-look location

2:30 PM: First look

3:00 PM: Bride and groom photographs

BMs and groomsmen leave for ceremony location

3:30 PM: Wedding-party photographs

4:00 PM: Florist delivers bouquets

4:30 PM: Photography ends, music begins in the chapel

4:55 PM: MOB seated

5:00 PM: Bride walks down aisle, ceremony begins

5:20 PM: Recessional

5:30 PM: Family formals

(5:45 PM: Cocktail hour begins)

6:20 PM: Must be completely done with photography

6:30 PM: Grand Entrance

7:00 PM: Dinner

8:30 PM: Toasts

Cake cutting

8:55 PM: Open dancing

11:00 PM: End of reception

Source: http://www.weddingbee.com/2012/07/19/wedding-day-timeline-4/

  • We do not have a DOC. We were told by our venue that they would act as our DOC dealing with the DJ, photography, ect. We do have a schedule from everyone like the make-up artist, and photographer. Maybe tomorrow or next week I can take all those schedules and make a rough timeline for us. Maybe then we can also start working on our processional line up.

You know everytime I call her out on "we have alot covered" she usually fires back "but I feel we should be doing more DIY stuff". So let me make a quick list of things that are DYI and tell me what you all think.

-Table Numbers (silver picture frames with disney couples"
    -Her heeled blinged out
-escort cards (I'm going to print each one out so make sure their names is printed in our wedding color)
    -Her bridesmaid jewelry
-STD (although we did use a kit)
-Unity candle taper holder (to be fair we bough the holder but the tapers were too slim so we cam up with the idea of wrapping them with ribbon that has our wedding color to make it thicker, and it worked)
-Scanned baby pictures (our friends going to make a montages with that and weddings pics we are going to give our folks and grandfolks)

I'm sure there was more we could have done but to be honest we suck at DYI stuff but we did our fair amount I feel.

Really want to make her happy on the wedding front I just have no idea what else to do.

In all honesty, a lot of people are not great not even good at DIY stuff. I'm pretty backed up on my DIY stuff but thankfully, I have my mom and FI's aunt helping me on that because if not I would be screwed! I think you have done a great job at covering so much on your own. I am positive your day will be all that you wanted and more.

If I may make a suggestion to help reduce stress on her part and yours which is something which FI and I have started to do and it's helped me out a lot. Do a date night...nothing big even at home but it's wedding-free meaning not mentioning anything about your wedding. Have a nice dinner and enjoy a bottle of wine just the two of you.

really quick update. I haven't been able to sit down and do a day of schedule but I really am hoping to get it done by Saturday. We've been taking dance classes on Saturday afternoon and they do help destress us a bit, maybe we can grab an early dinner afterwards this week.
I would love to go out more but money is a little tight with last mintue wedding things and getting the car in shape for the honeymoon. I think things will be quite for the next week and ahalf. I'm expecting to go back on full wedding blitz when the RSVP due date comes.

I think posting this helped a little because she heard from all of you ladies that we are in good shape. I guess part of the issue is no one has popped up to make sure all the individual componets are coming together.

Well hopefully after this weekend we can add a few more checks onto the list. Here's hoping

    sincerely

    chris
